The Renderosity crowd is not the most civilized bunch, so those gradations are probably a bitch to enforce.
But other than that I'm all for it.

Even a seasoned, experienced art critic with decades of experience is going to say things that artists don't want to hear, so they should not encourage critiques, or it could end up doing more damage than good.

Well, after 'critique discouraged' there needs to be a 'mindless praise only' option, but other than that, I think it's a great idea. It would suit those who actually want suggestions for improvement, and also those who just want a plethora of praise. :-)

I also greatly disagree about critique being "damaging", but I'm not going to argue about it. I've been getting critiques since high school for various things (art, public speaking, drama, etc.) and I've found that honest critique is extremely useful, and when it isn't you can just disregard it.

"Critique Discouraged"... heh I don't know why, but I see a light humorous side to that.

Maybe we should have some moderating system for critiques, you know... so other members could vote critiques or comments down or up.

** "Critique Discouraged"... heh I don't know why, but I see a light humorous side to that.** Me thinks if one were to choose that option, it would probably backfire...not always...but then sometimes ...yes.

I'd rather see an option for disabling "vote for this image" on one's images...

i think voting for best picture is a bad idea all u have to do is goto chat room and post the link or they could disable them from chat rooms till contest is over been on this site years "what i see"

So what happens if I just keep clicking the vote button on anything that I like?

Varian ( ) posted Thu, 02 September 2004 at 2:01 PM

"So what happens if I just keep clicking the vote button on anything that I like? " It will count up one vote on any individual image, and it lasts seven days. So you can click 20 times on ImageA on Thursday, but only one of those clicks makes a vote on that image. To vote for ImageA a second time, you'll have to wait and return to it the following Friday.

FrenchToast ( ) posted Thu, 02 September 2004 at 2:13 PM

What I mean (did) was clicking on imageA-imageM.

Varian ( ) posted Thu, 02 September 2004 at 2:23 PM

Oh. Well, you can make a vote on every image in the gallery, if you want. :) Each one counts once per seven-day period. Other than that, there's no limit on how many images you can make a vote on.

FrenchToast ( ) posted Thu, 02 September 2004 at 3:37 PM

LoL... well, I've done that. [evil laugh] My people get more votes than anyone else.
