Subject: Echo Genisis ~ Natural Gothica (download problem)

Neyjour ( ) posted Tue, 31 August 2004 at 1:27 PM · edited Fri, 13 December 2024 at 10:32 AM

I've tried several times to download this fantastic looking freebie (here in RFS) but keep getting this error message:

"Internet Explorer cannot download Echo_Genisis_by_Kaos.zip from mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk

The connection with the server was reset"

Is anyone else having the same problem? Has anyone been able to sucessfully download it using Netscape?

Thanks!
Ney

Well, I downloaded Netscape, tried again, and I'm still getting an error message. Is anyone else having a problem, or is it just me? :(

I tried downloading it and it worked right away.

Do you have a firewall? that may be stopping the download somehow. I use internet explorer v5.5 as I have heard that version 6 of internet explorer is not very good.

xantor, each time I try to download it works for about 10-15 mins before I get the error message. (Note: download time for me is roughly 1 and a 1/2 hours because of my slow 26.6 connection). Did you just try to download and then cancel it out, or did you download it completely? If it is the firewall, how would I go about disabling it? I've never done anything with firewalls before, and know nothing about it. I also have no clue what version of Internet Explorer I have. But the Netscape I downloaded is version 7.1

I downloaded it without a problem. Then again, I'm on DSL so the connection is a tad faster than yours. It may be a timeout problem. Some servers tend to kick slow connections for some reason.

Yes it might be the time it takes you to download that is the problem. I downloaded the whole thing but my connection is a fast one too.

Darn .. :( Okay, thanks for your help guys! :) Looks like I'll have to download it from a friend's comp.

The file downloaded fine for me (DSL). However, the problem seems to be with how it was compressed. I attributed it to the 'PC only' format placed on it (Since I'm a Mac user). But usually all that means is run it through maconverter. But after trying to uncompress this file I get the message that 'Archive was compressed with an unknown compression method'. Perhaps this is the reason behind your problem as well. Gwiz

hmmm, I was trying from a fresh install of W2KServer which had no 3rd party (no winzip, etc). I had just downloaded about 6 other files but only that one fizzled and always with "3sec left".... I'll try again tomarrow when I'm back on the T1.
