The one thing I absolutely love about the BRYCE forum on this website is that people here talk about all kinds of different stuff relating to 3D, of course it all comes back to Bryce in the end, but it's still interesting to anyone who's into 3D regardless of the program you use. In some of the other forums, you don't usually get as much leniency as you do here.

I have Bryce 5 (DAZ release). I also have several other programs ranging from so-called "high end" to "low end". I work primarily in 3dsMax nowadays, but I still use Bryce for lots of things as well.

This is turning out to be my fav forum on the site actually. Good job, AS. ;-)

Edit: I should point out that although I've been modeling and animating in 3D now for several years, I'm really a newbie to Bryce's capabilities. I just got it recently in fact. LOL. It's certainly DIFFERENT than what I'm accustomed to (3dsMax) as far as the interface is concerned. Even though I happen to be familiar with Poser's interface as well, it still does take some getting used to. ;-)

Wouldnt have wanted to miss the doughboy post, OT or not. We cant keep praising AS, hell get big headed but its nice to have a mod who`s not a budding nazi. (not refering to any other mod on Rosity or anywhere else)

Damn!!!!!!!?????. I have always found the little OT diversions about Cats,Dogs,Babies,BEER,and,RED WINE quite amusing and refreshing. Such a shame to take that aspect out of such a vibrant and infomative forum. Cheers "hic" 8) GG. "hic"

As long as it's personal news about Cats,Dogs,Babies,BEER,and,RED WINE it should be ok......

Hmm, sounds like AS is taking some heat from above... so lets make his life easier and keep it (in some vague way) to bryce/3d/2d as much as we reasonably can (hows that for a vague thingy? lol). Is that the general gist of it, AS?

PJF ( ) posted Wed, 01 September 2004 at 7:23 AM

I'm pleased with the decision. Been long overdue by my reckoning, since OT was becoming over the top. Having useful Bryce threads drop beyond the horizon due to kitty posts; 'dough boy' posts; and posts about modelling in other apps, is pretty irritating for those who, not entirely unreasonably, come to the Bryce forum primarily to interact about Bryce. I am not without guilt. I think we should all have a little more discipline and a little more consideration.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Wed, 01 September 2004 at 7:51 AM

A community (in my mind) is a group of people linked by a common interest. But we shouldn't be restricted to talking about just that interest. I don't think the Bryce community here would be anything like as close if we stuck to the topic. But I can understand how annoying it is for the more casual contributor, like PJF, to have to wade through (to them) irrelevant posts to read up on Bryce. There is the den, but be honest, how many of us look through there on a regular basis. What we need is a den of our own linked to the Bryce forum. Then people just interested in Bryce posts will be happy and the rest of us will have a place to post personal news and pictures.

I think it's time for a serious revolt! I found myself re-directed to some DEN site to view the Doughboy post and I am not happy about it! For years we've posted all kinds of stuff OT & On Topic. That's part of the fun of inhabiting this forum. Hell! That's MOST of the fun!. I get up every day (miracles do happen) and I never know what I'm gonna read on this Forum. I look forward to that, this is my morning paper, my contact with the world, my sad little life, and it kills me to think that someone is trying to change that. Someone is dictating what I can or cannot post on a forum that I love, and how I talk to the people I love about the subjects I love. What next? Is someone gonna say we can't talk about Wings3d, Vue, Max, C4d, Poser? Keep this up and I'm gonna leave. I don't know where I'll go, but the internet is a BIG place. This is NOT Funny and I'm very hacked-off about it! The p***ed-off Bryster

we should either be allowed to go OT or get a special OT-room in the bryce community. Like, splitting the bryce forum in a On-topic and Off-topic board. I know there's probably an Off-topic board somewhere around here, but it's not the same if it's for all or renderosity, that's just not even half as close and intimite (sp?) as the forum here.

Ah, this is the best forum period. As far as numbers go, (last time I checked) we were only second to Poser as far as how much activity we have in our Forum and (as far as 3D goes), in our gallery. (Considering all the galleries, I believe Photography is usually ahead of us in uploads) So, either way, all that major activity, and I swear this is the best forum/gallery to Mod for. And, truly no kidding, its because how cool all you forum people are. Oh..and we normally KILL Poser in the number of challenge entries we have every month. (don't know why) Our biggest turnout was 74 entries, I believe. 74 or 75. Some full blown contests don't get that many. I digress.... AS

LOL...AS, you're off topic (OT) we're not interested on how many entries there were or who looks at what, all we want is Bryce business! So everyone, get cracking with Brycing or you'll be hurled off to the abysmal Den in never land. Seriously, this place wouldnt be the same without some social interaction, as little as it is, people sharing personal idiosyncrasies and the like. Its like peering into the window at a knick-knack storefront and viewing all those little different and wonderful do-dads. Here its jokes, kitty pics and pasty doughboys and no one is being hurt by this, unless someone got a stomach upset with the death of the doughboy. AS, if youre being harangued from above, tell them we wont bow to their pressure and wont push their Bryce 6 if they insist on curtailing our freedom of expression. Artists need freedom to create and express themselves flawlessly. Its the only way to get their creative juices flowing. Snaps to attention, clicks heels together, raising hand in the air: Hail Bryce! 8D

Question: How many OT posts have inspired us to do another render? I am not going to the DEN.

See? Now you need to go look for that stuff instead of finding it here....I like some of the OT stuff, sometimes it's nice to know there are people out there with the same problems or the same humor, and we LIKE kitties and doggies and one thing inspires another here.....Without creative interaction, whether on or off topic, there would be more artist block and less gallery uploads.... And for those so unfortunate to have to 'wade', cough, throught OT posts, well, that's what makes THIS forum so interesting, and others so cut and dried...

What the "H" The Bryce group is definitely a family, and while "dad" (AS) may lead the conversation, ya gotta talk about other stuff. Like, who in the Poser forum or the Den would give a rats behind about my promotion. But I know (at least a few of you) care when something good happens to one of us. We all love Zhann's kittens, and I'll match Gog's beer with a good whisky any day. I think everyone also knows that, sooner or later, the true topic of Bryce will come back into conversation. I, for one, enjoy the occasional OT!

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sat, 04 September 2004 at 1:47 PM

The hair is still there, I was thinking about cutting it, but the current girlfriend will NOT allow it, lol. That Cat....oh, man. I petted it just a little too close to its hind-end, and boy it did NOT like that. The cat (which weighed as much as I did) looked back and growled....instantly, from out of thin air, one of the cats handlers produced half a raw chicken, and lobbed it at the cats mouth....the REAL scarey part wasn't that that half a chicken dissapeared in 5 seconds, but it was the sound of all the BONES cracking, with NO apparent annoyance to the cat...THAT was frightening. We took the pic, and got the heck outta there. AS
