Subject: bushi tutorials removed from tutorial database!!??

bushi ( ) posted Sun, 12 November 2000 at 2:12 PM ยท edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 6:59 PM

For well over a year, the tutorials on my site have been the second most viewed here (second only to the AT pdf link). I now find that they have been removed for the database! Now if there had been a reason for this, I could understand but I received no notification that this done. So what gives? This is getting a little creepy. First the 'Most Popular Sites' list is deleted and now this. If I was of paranoid bend, it would seem that there is an active hand in removing my name from this site. Call me confused and starting to get a little (understandably) upset with this situation.

You're right bushi, your tutorials don't seem to be in the database. I have no idea what happened to them. I'll look into it, and pull them from backups if I have to.

I know there was a recent clean up of dead links in the tutorial section but we certainly didn't mean to delete any active tutorials and will restore the data if necessary. Tim

On the Most Popular Sites feature, we moved to the Ring/Sponsor program because it more accurately tracks who refers members to this site. I note that you are near the top of this list and thank you for sending folks to Renderosity.

bushi, I think I've found out what happened to your tutorials. Periodically the Moderators and Admins make passes through the Free Stuff and Tutorials looking for dead links. Anything that is dead is noted, and checked again in several days. If a link is continually dead, then that item is removed. Apparently that is what happened to your tutorials. One of the moderators checked it over a period of a week, and the links stayed dead. So it was deleted. What would you like us to do? Restore your links from backup? Russell

It's odd that the links would show up dead. My server's site has been working fine so I'm at a loss as to why this would occur. So, yes, restore the links if you would please. Thank you for looking into this situation.

There is a router down somewhere IMO...many links have been coming up dead for me this week.

bushi, we've pulled up some old backups, and I found only one tutorial entry for you. It is currently up in the General section, and has a broken link. You should be able to use the "Edit" link to make any necessary changes to make it work. Russell

Made the changes and it works properly now. Thanks again for your help getting this corrected.
