The Artists for Change- the 2004 Vote Contest Seldom in real life do we CG artist get a chance to express our support for and comment on real world events, but we, as artist can do something no one else can. Make pictures! Now here is your chance. We at rendervisions.com are holding a pro democrat / pro Kerry Edwards contest with lots of great prizes. Why only the pro democratic point of view instead of any political POV. It is an often used and abused policy of some sites to demand a fair and balanced representation of opinions. This is not always for the best. Imagine, a Christian contest getting Atheist images. Or a pro gay contest getting anti gay marriage pictures. All things being equal are not always equal. So here are the rules- Post as many pictures as you wish- previously posted or brand new. As long as they are original to you. -All post must be at rendervisions.com in the contest gallery. -Nudity is allowed but please no pornography. -More then one character is allowed. -ANY software and post work is allowed. -The image MUST contain reference to the Kerry/Edwards campaign and/or the National Democratic Party. -The ruling of the judges is final. The judges reserve the right to remove any image at our discretion. -The contest runs from Aug 23, 2004 to Sep 30, 2004 and ends at midnight eastern standard time (EST). As you can see this is very open to your creativity. The images will be judged on three criteria. Originality, Quality, and Composition. Now for the good stuff, The prizes. The grand total in prizes is $365.53 1st. Hi there, I would like to say Thanks, But no thanks. And I believe you need to change your contest title to : " Democratic Artist for Change" . If you had, I wouldn't have wasted my time reading this. You say that : "policy of some sites to demand a fair and balanced representation of opinions. This is not always for the best. Imagine, a Christian contest getting Atheist images. Or a pro gay contest getting anti gay marriage pictures. All things being equal are not always equal. " But I don't buy that. You could set a rule that the images cannot be hostile or mud slinging. That the be Pro (whatever) and not Attack images. I personally find this contest excluding and offensive. I do not dedicate or swear my loylty to any one party. I vote for the person. I voted for Clinton both times he was elected. Last election I voted for a Rep house Rep and a Democratic Senator. I will probablly vote for Bush this time. But will most likely vote for the democratic Govenor candidate in my state. That being said, I hope you have fun w/ your private, exclusive contest. Take care, Rhonda

I submit that your entire statement is illogical and childish. I wouldn't have wasted my time reading this. -So you ONLY want to hear your own opinion? You ONLY want to read things you personally agree with?? get real- grow up- cause your in for a real surprise in life!!! Not my error but yours. "you need to change your contest title to : " Democratic Artist for Change" Even the title is clear enough! Change is the word for new- If I was a bush supporter that tittle would have to be "Artist for 'the same as it's been'" or "Artist for continuation" or "Artist for stagnation". No....Your miscomprehension of words is not my fault! Again-not my error but yours. Lets consider these words. Fair and balanced. We as people should always try to be fair, as in honest and truthful. But balanced, no-- that is not a requirement for life. If a person makes a picture here at RR that shows a white family picnicking, and the caption on it is "White is Right" Join the Klu Klux Klan. It would be pulled faster then you can click. Or a picture of a gay man tied and beaten to a post that has the caption "Kill all Queers". These opinions may be acceptable in some circles, but not here and not by me. Yet to maintain the illusion of 'balance' you would allow them?? can I go to a pro bush site and post my pro Kerry images- highly unlikely! As far as being 'excluding', yes it is. But not as much as you think. I know of two other Pro Bush Contest that are currently running. Not zero, not one, but two. I made this contest up. I got the prizes. I did the advertising. Lets consider. No one ever said the bush supporters could not have there own contest. All they had to do was set up the contest, make the rules, get the prizes and do the advertising. But in their contest all I see at this time is one single image posted (in both). But in mine currently are 16 pictures. So your complaint boils down to the FACT that I am better at running a contest and advertising then your side is! Again-not my error but yours. Private is the EXACT word Rhonda. It's not a publicly government funded project. Many, many of the prizes are from my store. And I demand the right to do with them as I see fit. To be bullied into action in a cause I do not support is, well, down right un-American!!! Effort is the key here. My efforts vs. your desires. My effort in support of my cause. Putting my money where my mouth is. Can you say the same??? Again-not my error but yours. As far as the other contest; I do wish them the best of luck in there contest, but it seems cowardly for me stop my contest at this time for your appeasement. I realize there are strong emotions on both sides- but that doesn't mean the opinions on the Democratic side are any less valid then yours. That is the difference between our side and the other. "I may disagree with your point of view, but by god I will defend your right to have it with my life" This does not mean I must help spread your point of view. "He who startles the fence only get stick up butt" So I say, your statement above is illogical and filled with errors. It is amazing just how much vehemence and hatred and un-thinking knee jerk reaction we've received, EXCLUSIVELY from the conservative element. You would think they don't want anyone else to have any other opinions. That we should all just pay our taxes, go to church and shut the hell up, lol.

ok. I didn't mean to get into a long disscussion. You said: " I wouldn't have wasted my time reading this. -So you ONLY want to hear your own opinion? You ONLY want to read things you personally agree with??" No, that is not what I am saying and you know it. I thought that the contest was an art contest that was open to all. The title indicated nothing about presidential elections or specific political parties. I simply went to look at the contest info, not knowing that I was going to be excluded from entering. It isn't a matter of reading what I do or do not want to hear. It is a matter of reading contest requirements... Which exclude me totally so I did waste my time didn't I? As far as when you said this: "If a person makes a picture here at RR that shows a white family picnicking, and the caption on it is "White is Right" Join the Klu Klux Klan. It would be pulled faster then you can click. Or a picture of a gay man tied and beaten to a post that has the caption "Kill all Queers". These opinions may be acceptable in some circles, but not here and not by me." That is ridiculous! I would not condone anything like that. You read selectively I see. I said that I believe hostile, mudslinging, attack images should not be allowed PERIOD. No matter who does them. People need to use a little common sense. Obviouslly the types of images you mentioned above are way past the norm and the tolerable limits! I also mentioned in my previous post that I do not align myself w/ any one party. I vote for republican and Democrat alike. I have actually never voted for a Rep President so this will be a first. I have only voted for them in other political positions...like congress, state, and local elections. You seem rather hostile and that wasn't my intention. I just wanted to tell you how your contest and it's wording in the topic made me feel (when I went to read about it only to find I was excluded). I am an open minded free willed thinking person. I think oppinions are wonderful and do not want anyone to Shut up. As long as those oppinions arn't hostile and mean. I don't want to hear people calling names and such. Just the issues please. And I don't want anyone trying to tell me what to think just because they happen to be well known (like Celebrities.) I don't think that you should be bullied into anything. Again, it just seemed misleading to me. I click on a contest headline only to find out that I am excluded. Again, I vote for the person. If the Edwards were the Presidential candidate instead of Kerry, we may not have had this conversation at all because I may not have felt excluded. I am not childesh or illogical. I assure you I am 40 yrs old and think everything through. In fact... I pick things apart too much most times. I don't want you to stop your contest. Just wanted you to take a better look at the title in the forum thread maybe? If not the word Democrat put in maybe the word Presidential or even Political???? As it stands it really indicates none of those. As far as the other contest's go.. I knew nothing about them. I may not participate in them either though for the same reasons mentioned above. I think all sides should be allowed to freely support whomever they wish But I don't want to see nasty attack images. I didn't know that the contest was at another site either. I thought it was here. So I appoligize if you felt that I was being hostile. I was just expressing my feelings. Take care and good luck w/ your contest. Rhonda

I thought I'd post this subject so that people would have an idea of what is in here. Not that the contest is a bad idea, or a robust discussion is bad, though the "startles the fence" comment seems to have come out of nowhere. ??

So ... my bottom line advice is to not get distracted and to visit http://rendervisions.com/

Looking from outside the USA, I don't see anything wrong with a contest for pro-Kerry/Edwards art. Somebody else can do the same for pro-Bush/Cheney and have. And, yes, "change" is a pretty strong clue for a pro-Kerry/Edwards context. Bush and Cheney are the status quo. Looking at both sides posts, it's obvious how emotions are boiling over on the political issues. Alas, my experience suggests that Republican supporters are frequently following an aggressive strategy of jumping on on discussions, posting lengthy statements of their version of the "truth", and not listening. Shouting, not discussing. This thread looked to be heading the same way. I hope I'm mistaken. There's a long history of political art. Let's have our arguments with pictures, not words. And I see a mention of two Pro-Bush contests running elsewhere. Somebody just post the URLs, and then we can stop arguing here.

And I see a mention of two Pro-Bush contests running elsewhere. Somebody just post the URLs, and then we can stop arguing here. Well, the urls are the same, which is why my advice was "to not get distracted." Hey, I'm a Republican, and I think saying that I'm following an "aggressive strategy of jumping on on discussions, posting lengthy statements of their version of the "truth", and not listening" is very unfair to me. You wouldn't appreciate it if I said it was a very European way to look at things, would you? (Aside from the fact such a statement would be unfair and untrue, it would irritate you wouldn't it?). Perhaps a comment about Furries and Frenchmen in the ecology of Fantasy (hmm, I've run out of "f" words for alliteration). Well, you get the thought. Lets stick to being fair and balanced. For real, not just rhetoric.

Thanks Ethesis! For seeing that I wasn't trying to jump on anyone And letting us know about the other contest location. Rhonda
