anyone along the path of Ivan? Or went thru Frances?

gillbrooks ( ) posted Mon, 13 September 2004 at 6:15 AM

Not me personally - we only get the dying embers of those monsters here in England but I personally know 3 RO members who live in Florida. One of them lost her home to Frances and is staying with relatives in Texas, another lives close to Tampa which was one of the predicted paths. She's ready to move out if she needs to. She hasn't fixed the damage caused by the last one yet. Only got her power back last Thursday! I really do sympathise with ANYONE who has to go through this nightmare! Gill

yes, but I'm in Tennessee. The wind was barely 25mph by the time it got here.

Yea @ Bryster - we'd planned on going there yesterday but cancelled after hearing the weather forecast. Hope it eases up for you soon! We've had some torrential rain here in Staffordshire but nothing like you're getting!

I live in Sarasota Fl. Hurricane Charlie hit 45 miles south of where I live and Frances came through 45 mile north of us. Ivan please go anywhere but the peninsula of Fl. I just heard Ivan has killed 65 people so far ( on the Island ) and the eye is just about to hit the corner of Cuba. This storm has the potential to be the worst in the last century.

I used to live in Sarasota. "Coral Club" Apartments on Clark Road. I now live in North Fort Myers, ground zero for Charlie and got some from Frances. Ivan's gonna miss (I really hope). When the walls "breathe" in your home it is not at all a nice feeling. God speed to Ivan the terrible.

I lived in dominica..that's the tiny island in the middle of the caribbean..when hurricane david (1979)wiped out the island. It's a landmark in my life. I may have only been a kid that time..but it's so etched in my mind. The fear, the earthquake we felt. I had fever that day. Our home was safe..but we had no water for 5 months.. no electricity for 6. We had two other families move in with us since their house was gone. The looting for a day or two..the US/ British soldiers that flew in to restore peace..and supply us with food. School opened in feb instead of sept (woohoo!) but coz of no lites..we'd be in bed by 6- 6.30. (i'd read under the blanket with a torch..hence now my high powered specs). Fear of hurricanes in the West Indies started after Hurricane David. Winds at 150 mph.
God be with all those now who went thru Frances, and Ivan..and those who may go thru Ivan.

I was in Fort Myers the morning Andrew went through Naples, Went to Miami right after that. ( I splice telephone cable ), after 2 weeks in Miami, I went to Kauai Hawaii, after Iniki hit ( class 4 hurricane ) . I have never seen devastation like that, Miami was bad, but when one of these storms go over a little island they rip it to shreds and don't even slow down. I would be down south ( your way ) right now , but I broke my leg....which has been a real bummer along with all the storm infestation we been having lately.

We are ready. High paranoia level. But better safe than sorry. Been watching this, every hour, every day, religiously. http://www.noaa.gov/

I got hit by both Charlie and Frances. and worse yet by both eye walls from each. I live in an apartment complex and was relatively safe except for losing power for about a week total. The worst thing though is that after Frances knocked out our power some thieves took advantage of the situation and stole about 15 cars from the complex, including mine. I got what I thought was a prank call at 4am one morning from the cops asking me if I wanted them to pick me up so that I may retrieve my auto. All in all in a few days about 60 cars in the area were taken and simple parts were taken off and the cars dumped. I lost a door window and they smashed my column to start it up! But as for Ivan, I think we will just get a ton more rain and some wind up to 35-40mph, as it is pretty far out in the Gulf of Mexico.

Well my mom and sister and her family packed up this afternoon and are hding out in Lake Charles, La. My friend and his family are headed for Knoxville. They all live in New Orleans. In all my life this is the first time I've seen my mom evacuate and she went through Besty in 65.

I'm in Pensacola so we are pretty much in the path. It looks like it will hit somewhere between Pacagoula to Mobile putting us in the NorthEast quadrant - not where you really want to be. I'm about two miles inland from the bay so we've decided to stick this one out.
