Subject: Millenium Horse import problems

svdl ( ) posted Sun, 12 September 2004 at 4:02 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 2:20 PM

Hi all, I'm trying to import the Millenium Horse (as part of an animation) into Vue 4 Pro (4.53, build 270045). I have Mover 5 installed with the latest patches as of today. Now I remember a scene by giovanino where he used mil horses, so it must be possible to import them. Does anyone know how? Thanks in advance, Steven.

P.S.: the DAZ Charger imports fine.

hmm... I use the Milhorse and it imports with no problems.

Last night I imported the horse, the western saddle and AnAn. It had a 8 frame animation.

I save the scene in Poser (pz3 file). In Vue I select File/Import object. Then the dialog about Grouping as single meshes appears. I select 'Group figures...' and 'Import entire Poser animation'. Then it imports the whole thing.

I've got a couple of images in my gallery using the millie horse in Vue 4 + Mover 5, and a whole raft of them on my pc! However the MH mesh and CR2 is very heavy when importing into Vue, and even on my fairly up to date PC (XP3000 barton, 768 ddr400 ram etc) it takes a long time to import in comparison to say the Charger or the P4 horse. What I do to alleviate this is to open the MH CR2 in Morph Manager and rip out all the unused morphs such as the phenomes, the stock breed morphs etc then edit the CR2 in CR2edit to remove the unused full body morphs. I also opened the base obj in Uvmapper and simplified the materials by assigning all of the innerear, nostrils etc that usually use the same texture and settings to the coat material and left and right cornea's to just "cornea", and all the other eye materials to just "eyes", this really simplifies changing the horses textures in Vue :) PS. Don't forget to make a backup of your objs and cr2s! Alla

Following up what I just typed, the MH standard (not sr1) mesures up as a whopping 42.2mb and my "Lite" model is a little more svelt at 6.12mb that has got to make a difference on importing! Alla

Thanks! I'll try that. My own systems are quite up to date too (Athlon 2700+ / 1 Gb and P42.8HTT / 1.5 Gb) so it should work. I'm thinking about converting all those incorporated morphs into morph injections, that way I can have a very light CR2. 42 Mb is crazy, it's almost twice the size of Victoria 3 with all morphs loaded! Thanks for the tips.

Lol Tiny :) I've got the first part of the tutorial done. It's very basic but it covers the Morph Manager part of it. I took me longer to upload it than to write it as my connection is a bit haphazzard tonight! Svdl, your system should be more than enough to handle it, what version of Poser are you using and are the patches up to date? (I'm clutching at straws here!) Alla

I'm using Poser 5, service pack 4.1 (the latest). And Vue 4 Pro 4.53 build 270045 with Mover 5. I just installed the new beta patch to get Python to run, but that didn't help. Haven't tried importing the Mil horse in 4.54 yet.
The pz3 that crashed was a 30 frame animation with the Mil horse, saddle and tack, and V3 wearing some dynamic clothes riding. P5 didn't have any trouble with that pz3. I imported only frame 30 (cape nicely settled on the back and tail of the horse), and I grouped the meshes.

Sounds like a lovely animation! I wonder if it is a Vue Pro issue then? I'm only using Vue 4 with Mover 5, and haven't tied out P5's dynamic cloth in Vue. Also it could be the dense meshes that are causing a problem even with your system. If it isn't for facial closeups I've use Victoria 1 or 2, she's much easier on the system for animations. Alla

Might be a Pro issue - there's many of them, alas! I don't think it's a mesh density issue, since another import contained M3, fully dressed in the M3 Fantasy armor, riding an armored DAZ charger. And in another scene, I had no problem at all importing three Victoria 3 figures at once. When I replaced the Mil horse by the P4 horse, the import went fine. The problem seems to the Mil horse specifically.

Strange! I'd post a message at Daz to see if any of their customers are having a problem too. Have you tried importing just the animated horse on it's own? BTW are you using the origional MH or the SR1? Also daft as it seems try replacing the MH with the foal as I think that the meshes are slightly different - if it works then there could be some bad faces on the MH mesh? Alla

I bought the Millenium Horse Bundle, I can't find anything on SR-1 for the Mil horse.

Now this is strange. I just tried importing the foal - works fine. THen I made another simple scene in Poser, just the mil horse, a texture and a pose, and added that scene to Vue. Import went OK, but the transmap of the tail looks all wrong. This is in Vue Pro 4.54 build 270996.

It should have been in your account screen, if it isn't I'd send them an email. I usually use the first version myself though, the sr1 has some nicer mane morphs but I've made my own versions of most of the new ones before sr1 was released so stick to what I know. Alla

That's strange! I'd contact both E-on and Daz, you might want to post a link to this in the Poser forum as it gets more eyeballs and is partly Poser related. Alla

Another thought:
I remember having problems when importing and specifying a sertain frame of the animation to import. That didn't work at all for me.
But importing complete animations works fine.
