Hi, I am completely new to using Poser. And I am having a hard time. Is there anywhere or anyone that can teach from the beginning? Please help!.....Lynne

ernyoka1 has a good tutorial here, that should get you started.

I would recommend you downloading the poser 4 manual, it tells you more about the way poser works than the poser 5 manual.

It is available at the link, but it is a big file 32.26MB. All the poser 4 information works with poser 5 apart from the materials.

I tried really hard to use both the Poser 4 & Poser 5 manuals. They were no help. It would be even worse to use the Poser 4 manual to learn Poser 5. Let's face it, Poser 5 has "rooms" that are not in Poser 4.

I like poser 4 and poser 5 but I suppose I am in the minority here. The poser 5 renderer is not the best but it is a vast improvement from the poser 4 one.

Hello, In doing the hair....I have paint shop pro 7 & 8. Is it done with a mouse? I have heard a different method. another type of pad... I can't remember what it is called. Any suggestions?

A graphics tablet is the name of the pad. Kozaburo has made some very good poser hair for free at the link, you don`t have to draw the hair, that can be quite difficult to make it look right.

I always just use the mouse to paint, so you don't need a graphics tablet, it's just a matter of what your comfortable using...you can use the hair room also. The only thing about the free hair is so many people are using it so you see it all the time.

...but if you are doing animations the free hair is better. ;)

Good point! That's true. Since she was asking about painting, I wasn't even thinking about animations.

Studio maya is another site with free hair. The hair doesn`t have to always look the same, if you play with the morphs and use different colours for the hair objects they can be made to look quite different.

"totally lousy render engines, POV-Ray or Yafray are far better." Unsubstatiated Opinion. "material room, making a texture is an exercise in total frustration, anything else is far better, and compatible with other programs." Poser 5's material room is comparable to the applications referred to within the same sentence excerpted from, and, indeed, is not transferable -- but then, oddly enough, neither are they. Frustration is part of the learning process -- and one does have to learn the material room. being crazy, I thought I'd point this out to keep things on par. The link above will also take you to several tutorials of value in learning the basics of Poser. You may also wish to visit www.runtimedna.com, where there is a wealth of experience from both new and old users free for the l=plucking -- one needs only but ask :)

Most other 3d apps I have seen don`t have textures that are compatible with any other program. Radiosity is just an effect and can be faked in poser 5 quite easily because the material room is so good.
