I've got a week or two before the publisher sends me another swarm of anatomy bugs to swat. Not enough time to dig into a huge project. In the meantime, I'm sort of distracted... There are several scripts on the back burner, but none of them cries "Work on me!" So somebody needs to give me a shove in one direction or another. Is there something I left dangling that you could actually use? Is this enough mixed metaphors for one message?

How many ADHD kids does it take to screw in a light bulb? Wanna ride bikes? As an adult adhd sufferrer I can understand completely...I love to refer to it as "real time multi-tasking." I dunno..an add on to the lights panel that eliminates all those pesky lights that are off but still part of a light package? I love your light panel, but there's no selector to just delete the lights that are already turned off without effecting every other light. Hope you feel better soon. Oh, and the joke is originally form Beth Patterson, an Irish Folk Singer out of New Orleans who is, herself, an adhd victim.

I don't know what's more embarrassing... having to take Adderall twice a day to function or the fact that it looks almost exactly like Viagra (try explaining THAT at work).

Lawndart ( ) posted Tue, 14 September 2004 at 5:13 PM

What's really interesting is that you KNOW it looks like Viagra. :) I too suffer from... uh... from...

What question?

Berserga ( ) posted Tue, 14 September 2004 at 5:43 PM · edited Tue, 14 September 2004 at 5:44 PM

Eh they just called it ADD when I was a kid. Used to be on ritalin. But I quit because I prefer my More chaotic, yet more creative ADD state over the dullness of bein on the meds. It's a bit inconvenient though. I'm more focused than when I was a kid tho.... usually.

Lawndart ( ) posted Tue, 14 September 2004 at 6:00 PM

Meditation as opposed to medication has helped me tremendously. I never took medication. When I was a kid it was known as "a pain in the ass that disrupts the class" or "he can't focus so he must have a learning dissability". I still don't think they've figured out that it was complete BORDOM. It also drove me nutts when ADD was the new bucket that they they could throw every kid into that didn't conform. "Ok Harry, we have another non-conformist for the ADD bucket". :) Here we are completely off original topic. Figures doesn't it? LOL Joe

Ockham, do you remember trying to make some things invisible, and Poser wouldn't let you do it in the code? There is a small note that I found that says: - If you set a pose file version to 3, you can use the code "on" and "off" for each body part to show/hide the part. - The disadvantage is of course that as soon as you resave that PZ2 file, then that function won't work anymore, because the version number will change to whatever version of the program you are using, unless of course you can find a way with Poser to disable the version number change, although that may not be possible with Python.

ockham ( ) posted Tue, 14 September 2004 at 8:20 PM · edited Tue, 14 September 2004 at 8:24 PM

I don't actually remember that.
(Senility, not ADHD)

AFAIK, all regular body parts and props will
go visible/invisible nicely from Python.

Which things wouldn't get switched?
Were they Poser internals like camera icons? Or was the problem actually related to hiding and unhiding parameter dials? There are certainly some inconsistencies in that realm.

I seem to remember now, but I am on the wrong track. It was the material transparency that couldn't be controlled by Python. This was when I was trying to animate gun flashes using Python, and getting python to control the invisiblity, but it didn't work. So sorry, this is totally off the mark and of no help at all, and I don't even suffer from ADHD. I suffer from "Biting off more than I can chew" syndrome.

Obsessive compulsives are people who notice patterns in numbers. These people also wash their hands too often. Ockham, how many times a day do you wash your hands, lol.

Hahahaaaa! SamTherapy, that was a good one! (at least i liked it...)

Oook, going even FOT (farther off topic), would it be because at R'osity the surfers' counter is biased to start at 1608?
No, I don't mean so much, but i never saw it going below 1000 or so... what's your thought?

How about the script to fake crosstalk for P5? I'm sure MANY people could use it, and it sounded like you already had a base program that could be modified to do it...

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

ockham I'm in the middle of a looooong process of converting 136 clothing items from Vicki to the Mayadoll. its almost entirely poser steps too ...except for the cr2 hacking bit. Now if you could automate THAT process I think I presonally would diefy you :) general outline : import clothing obj from geom. apply magnets that deform to match the new figure. Fiddle for fit. Export obj. Copy, rename and hack cr2 to refer to the new obj. Load new cr2, apply joint resetter for MD joint setup. Save cr2. Start again with next item. any possibility there? hopeful look if you had a regrouper to add buttocks for posette to V conversions .... Lyrra ps I tend to refer to ADHD as the 'Oooh shiny!' disease. And no surprise: steve and I are both ADHD lol As if you couldn't tell by our product lineup

DominiqueB ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 11:00 AM

I'd have to second Gareee on that one, crosstalk for P5 to make it possible to have ERC on clothing. Us clothing makers would erect an altar in your honor for such a script ,that's a Poser altar of course, complete with your prominently engraved name for your Vickie's to worship you at! :-)

Gareee ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 11:03 AM

After seeing all the problems with Girl's catsuit, and all the other clothing issues that not having crosstalk created, being able to restore it in any way seems like a major P5 breakthrough. Heck, Ockham, you could probably even sell it off to Daz, and they could use it as a solution for p5 users.

nomuse ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 1:58 PM

Crosstalk crosstalk crosstalk. Put it in P5 and some of us will finally migrate. I wash my hands about once an hour.

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 2:03 PM

You wash your hands of Poser 5 about once an hour? :)

nomuse ( ) posted Wed, 15 September 2004 at 3:03 PM

No...just once, long ago.

Berserga, If the meds make you drowsy then you are on the wrong med, or are taking too much, or even a bad mix of meds. This is what I have found: Straterra and Wellbutrin do NOT play well together AT ALL. DO NOT take Straterra if you are on Wellbutrin. Ritalin made me jangly and drowsy. Concerta gave me anxiety attacks. Adderall XR is Da Bomb! Plus is plays VERY nicely with Wellbutrin. Less is more >^_^< I only have to take one 10mg capsule in the morning...but it has to be before 8am or I'll be up all night. My creativity is not stifled, I don't feel tired all the damned time, no more anxiety attacks (neither induced by meds nor walking nightmares that I have forgotten something extremely important.)and I can actually complete a task once I've started it. I only "forget what I went in there for" once or twice a day now instead of 10 or 15. I could go on and on...but hvaing recently had to go without my ADD meds for a few days, I can tell you there is a HUGE difference in the most positive ways.

YES!!!!! I do not "suffer", nor am I a "victim" of ADD. There are aspects of it that are a real challenge to my sanity and survival, but if someone came along and offered to take it away completely I tell them "no thank you". I hate being forgetful and late, and seemingly "spacey", I LOVE that I can think fast, shine under pressure, and multi-task like nobody's business. There is a theory that ADHD and ADD are not "disorders" at all, but signs of evolution. We just need some help keeping up with ourselves >^_~

Huolong ( ) posted Thu, 16 September 2004 at 9:38 AM

I read the book "Hunter in a Farmers World" ... and it is liberating. The ADD mind is designed for the wild, constantly on the alert for danger and for food. Once a prey is spotted, it's lockon and chase. Farmers can walk behind a plow furrow after furrow. Farmers can outproduce hunters for food as it takes less ground. Farmers will stay in their rut until a hunter comes along. If a hunter findshimself in a farmers world, it's a bitch to adapt hunter ways to farming. My wife likes me without the meds and developed ways of reminding what I went in there for.

Ah, well...if we're wired for the wylde, it all makes more sense! I had an educational psychology class a few years ago when I was working on my degree in secondary education that was taught by an instructor who was highly enlightened by state standards. There was an interruption as several cars in succession drove past the open windows of the classroom. To make her point that ADD is not a Deficit Disorder, it is a hyperawareness disorder, she had all of us who have it raise our hands and went around the room asking us the make, model, color, number of occupants, and music that was playing for each vehicle. By and large, we all got the right answers while the rest of the class said "what cars?" And I'd like to put my vote in for a Python script that will take V3 clothes and make them fit V2, Mayadoll, or Sarah...without having to learn how to jump backwards through a burning hoop wearing a beaver costume.

FreeBass ( ) posted Sat, 18 September 2004 at 12:59 AM

Would it be possible to do a script that would rewrite a CR2 to disable IK on by default?

Or how 'bout one that'll go thru yr tex folder, find same named .jpg & .bum files, & shitcan the .bums (fer PP & P5). Or the same in Libraries w/ .rsr & .png's

Correct Reference Pro can get rid of rsr & png's, it can't get rid of bum files but, if you prefer jpeg bump maps, you can set it to change any references that call a bum file where the jpeg also exists to point to the jpeg bump map. It will also get rid of .rsr or .png's, whichever you choose.
