Subject: OT: Need help with an OLD product serial

DCArt ( ) posted Sat, 18 September 2004 at 10:42 AM · edited Mon, 22 July 2024 at 11:07 PM

I have a legal copy of MetaCreations Canoma that I purchased when it first came out. I just dusted the CD off to reinstall it so that I could use it to re-create my 1930 bungalow home in 3D, as a possible Poser product ... But here's my problem. We moved 2 years ago, and while packing I threw out all of my old software boxes to save on packing. I figured I had the Canoma S/N written down in my little bible, where I keep ten years of software serial numbers handy. But I just looked through the list and ... nope ... nothing for Canoma under the C's. MetaCreations is now defunct, so there is no way to contact them for my old serial number records, and I can't even remember if anyone took over this product. So I thought I'd post here seeing as MetaCreations also originally distributed Poser. Does anyone have any idea where I can go to resolve this? Thanks

I'd say your best chance is contacting Curious Labs.

Yeah maybe I'll do that ... got a few of their names in my contact list. Keeping my fingers crossed ... 8-)

Attached Link: http://www.canoma.com/

from the link above, Canoma was acquired by Adobe. Hope it helps.

Thanks! But hehehehe, that's good AND bad ... Good that it's in Adobe's hands, but bad because I might need to give them blood before I get a serial number! ROFL Hopefully they will have a record, as I USUALLY register my software when I first install it. I say usually because sometimes I get brain fades. It's called age. 8-)

THERE IS HOPE!!! I want to thank Dagon for posting that Canoma link. I contacted the site owner, and it appears he was the Canoma product manager for MetaCreations. So I just wanted to let folks know that, in case there are others who need a resource for Canoma. It WAS a very cool program, as it helped you build 3d objects from photos.

Canoma is one of those great "fell through the cracks" programs. It was a little limited and a lot clunky, but there was a lot of potential in that little package.

I have that one, should probably drag it out. I put my S.N.'s in the manual, if that helps any. Marque

Actually I found out about Canoma about a month ago when one of my good friends gave me his old copy of it. That is just a really COOL little program! The manuel and tut's that came with it aren't bad,but that link helps out also......Thanks. SWAMP

It wasn't in your book under C for Canoma - did you look under M for Metacreations? :-)

I said it was a silly question...

LOL!!!!!! Good thought, but I usually write them in by program name. But, just to satisfy your curiosity, I did just look under the M's and it wasn't there. Hehehehehe! I would be LOST without that book! I'd better type it all out and burn it to DVD before I lose it.

PS ...

I agree with the others that Canoma is a very cool product, as were ALL of MetaCreations products. I think I had just about all of them ... started with Painter, then Kai's Power Tools, and then (can't remember the order they were released, but I started with Version 1 of everything): Poser, Expressions, Ray Dream Studio, Bryce, Painter 3D, Canoma, and I can't remember what else. Still have all the CD's, but not the boxes. LOL

I Love my Ray Dream Studio 5.5!!! ).0 And like the guy said, I put all my MetaCreations S/N sticker's in the manuals cuz it was too hard to read the spinning CD while I was installing the program.
