Trying to figure out how I want to do the borders for the photos from the ImportLife autoshow. Kind of tired of the same old lined borders. Dunno if I like these either though. Thoughts?

Same style as above with different bordered pattern.

Traditional film negative with a bit of a twist. I think I like this best of the 3, but dunno if it's too distracting. -=>Donald

Ooops...forgot one. A vignette-type edge.

There are borders here? Cars? [Simplicity seems best in showing these. The vignette-type edge seems best. The others are nifty depending on context; advertisement, brochure, etc.]

I like the film one a lot! The vignette one is right up my alley too.... the colored ones, hmmm... nice but not crazy about them.

I like these borders a lot. I do like the colored ones but i think they might work better with an image which has a tie in to the colors on the border. If the model was wearing a purple-colored shirt, i think i would like it better. I think i like #3 the best too. It's not distracting at all to me. and the vignette is oh so subtle. great stuff here! Fantastic portraits you've done!

I think it depends on the subject. The first one I think would be excellent when you're trying to show raw power of some sorts. The colors give a kind of industrial metallic kind of feeling. For women (and other soft subjects :)) I like the film and the vignetting.

You guys pretty much echoed my thoughts on these. I'm not sure the large film look would hold up across all the varied subjects and croppings (I know there's gonna be some where the holes just hit the wrong spot). The top two are a bit strong for models ... may work with just a machine. I like the vignetting, but it felt too subdued to me, so I combined the soft vignette edge with an irregular border for this one. I think this could hold up as a good border across all the images (about 145 for this event). -=>Donald

Oh, forgot this one. I have the AutoFX Dreamsuite series, but almost never use them for any kind of bordering/display type stuff. But played with it a bit ... can do some cool stuff. To over-powering to the image in my opinion, but could be very interesting with practice and if used well. -=>Donald

I've been using something like this for my Donald-toning. Have not gotten too tired of it yet.

Waves hello to Donald Borders three and four are wonderful (nine is same border as in 4?), number two is pretty good too, not too wild about number one at all, even though the colors are the same as number two, number two is less of a distraction. wavey wave Ummm .... 9 has same softened edge technique as 4 but instead of a smooth border around the image it has a softened jagged, irregular border. Tried to keep it subtle. Misha - That's cool. I've had some thoughts of doing something like that, but dunno if it would go with the full color shots. A bit "traditional" for a car show. I dunno. I've kind of confused myself by combining color auto and model shots with the softened and toned shots within the same event. I dunno. -=>Donald
