Subject: Poser Web Ring - I'm disgusted!

pdblake ( ) posted Fri, 17 November 2000 at 1:06 PM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 7:07 AM

I have, in the last two minutes joined the Poser Web ring and also removed it's code from my site. When I went to test the code I discovered that, on click the next site link, that there was no next site. On clicking the previous site link I was presented with what can only be described as pornography. This kind of stuff may be acceptable at Renderotica. but I thought we didn't have that here. If I had not checked the code I could have been misleading my visitors.

I'll check this site out a see if it violates the ring rules. If you joined the ring and only removed your code, that would break the ring. I'd have to delete your site from the program to do it correctly. Is that what you would like? -JH.

If I am expected to link to site like this then yes, remove me. I only sell props for poser on my site, it's not a sex shop!

That site doesn't seem to violate the terms as they are stated now. I'll leave this up to Tim to decide. -Jeff

Are you talking about the Ukko3D site? Scarab

pdblake ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 2:59 AM

The link is above Scarab, not entirely sure what the site is called, something about a girl gallery.

Scarab ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 10:54 AM

The link took me to the Ukko3D site, there is nothing porno or girly there that I saw.....maybe it has been removed? Scarab

pdblake ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 12:47 PM

It looks like the site I was talking about has either been removed or has changed position or something, the site that the link above leads to does not lead to the one I mean. I apologise to the owner of this site and will delete the link above, it was not my intention to cast any dispersions on a genuine site. On the other hand if the offending site was removed or moved by the moderators, it would have been nice to have been told.

Deeds, not words, as they say.... Scarab

pdblake ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 2:43 PM

Is Ukko3D your site by any chance Scarab?

JeffH ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 6:13 PM

I haven't removed any site from the ring yet. Maybe you could add the code back to your site now?

The Web Ring is resequenced periodically. Sounds like someone caught it being resequenced. If anyone is interested, here's how ring position is now calculated: For each referrer, a ring_factor is calculated: ring_factor = members_referred_over_last_7_days + (.5 * members_referred_for_all_time) + (.1 * visitors_referred_for_all_time) Ring position 1 is then assigned to the referrer with the highest ring_factor. Position 2 is assigned to referrer with the next smaller ring_factor, and so on. The goal is to make this an equitable calculation with a bias toward recent referrals. I'd appreciate any feedback on how to improve the calculation.

No, afraid not. On reflection it seems like a webring isn't the thing for me. If I have no way of telling who I am linking to then I would rather not link to anyone at all. I'll stick to putting my links in by hand and hope that they are kind enough to link back. I cannot allow my visitors to mislead to sites like that. It reflects badly upon me, and may well upset some of them. You all know what kind of models I sell, the people who buy them are in all likelyhood not the kind of people who would appreciate sites like that. In my opinion you should take a look at all of the sites in the ring and decide whether there are any that you would find offensive, or let our kids see.

JeffH ( ) posted Sun, 19 November 2000 at 2:58 AM

Okay, that's fine with me. I think you may not know who your visitors are though. If they are Poser users 3D nudity isn't going to bother them. -JH.

pdblake ( ) posted Sun, 19 November 2000 at 6:13 AM

Jeff the site I saw wasn't just a matter of nudity.

Scarab ( ) posted Sun, 19 November 2000 at 1:04 PM

No, pd, I have not a website of my own as yet....and I'm sorry if my last comment sounded flippant (which I guess it did). I was just pointing out that, if it came down to doing what you asked (deeds) and telling you that they were going to do so (words)...be happy if they actually did it rather than just tell you....(now I'm confused......) Scarab <-ignore me.....

I think I know what he means. There was a site on the ring that displayed pictures from a guy named "Black Hawk". Some one told me that it must have been Renderotica but, it wasn't. I don't remember what the site was but, it was poorly made. It did have some nice art though. The bad stuff was buried four or five pics in and those picture were very disturbing. there was some mention of sexual content but, what I saw was not what I would think of as being a sexual thing. Those pictures were brutal and depicted a woman in severe agony (nude, tied to a tree while freezing to death in a snow storm). Thankfully, that site no longer seems to be around but, those type of sites seem to pop-up ever so often. With that in mind, I can't see how Renderosity can keep track of them all. Its up to all of us to maintain this site. Just like we are doing now. Renderosity has done a good job of blocking the harsh stuff so, no complaints from me. Good work!
