Subject: Request about Freebies

cedarwolf ( ) posted Tue, 21 September 2004 at 1:16 PM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 3:30 AM

To those wonderful, beautiful, kind and generous folks who create the freebies that allow us lesser talented mortals to participate in the 3D art world: Could you please put on your freebie what version of a particular item or character it is for? I've downloaded several textures for the MFD and spent hours beating myself about the head and shoulders trying to figure out why they wouldn't work only to finally figure out they were for the V3 version and not the V2 version. Please, kind souls that you are, a little notice of some sort on version and use? Please? (whine, grovel...)

I didn't even know there was a V2 version of the Morphing Fantasy Dress.

Some freebies don`t even say what the add on is for ie a prop or a figure etc.

"I didn't even know there was a V2 version of the Morphing Fantasy Dress." Because there is no MFD for V2, at least not at DAZ.

Hmmm...lemme check the files when I get to the house...we bought it last year when DAZ ran their big 30 day platinum club membership along with M2, V2, Cyclorama (and a buncha stuff for that), Anton's hair, and Anton's Special Effects. I just checked the DAZ site and can't find the silly thing anywhere. I was puttering with it last night and it's in the CT folder....

Are you sure it's a dress? Could it be the changing outfit?

Ok, I'm home and did some digging, the dress in question is the MWVLD, which we think was advertised as the morphing fantasy dress, but we could be wrong. Which is too bad, because those MFD texture would sure look great on the MWVLD. My point still stands, however...

Oh I agree totaly with your point. Do you have a pic of the dress that you do have? I'm curious now.

That would be the Versatile Long Dress and Gown...

Could you please put on your freebie what version of a particular item or character it is for?

Do you specifically want it on the thumbnail, in the Notes & Requirements field, in the documentation, or all three?

I always read the Notes so that would be good. If there are no Notes then on the image itself so one doesn't waste bandwidth downloading something they can't use.

Heck I've seen some freebies where it's not even clear what it IS, never mind what it's for.

I try to put the info in the notes. Although to be honest I've taken to linking to my page with them so that any further information is available right there.

I appreciate all this input. I think that the readme files could have the originating item listed (like my booboo about calling the MFD the MWVLD), and any important info. Also, those lovely pop-up info boxes might hold the basic info of original item name as a reference to whether or not the freebie is going to be able to be used by the downloader. I'd also love to see the readme file titled the same as the item...I don't know how many times I've lost a readme because they're ALL called readme and something gets overwritten. But, that's just me and I very well may be barking mad ;-}
