Subject: How to change your own username?

spothmann ( ) posted Thu, 23 September 2004 at 1:37 AM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 9:25 PM

Good morning from Germany to everyone, I have by now spent almost a week searching Renderosity in order to find out how to change my username. You see, after being a member of this community for four and a half years now, and after now getting back after a reeealllyyy long break, I just think that it is time to go by the 'new' online name that I am using in other communities for almost two years now. Additionally, because I was so silly to think that it would be easy to change the name, I submitted a new item to the store before changing my name, and the readme file as well as the pictures actually contain my new name cries. Now what can I possibly do to change my username, or is it indeed needed that I create a new account? I so loved to be listed among the 'first' 25.000 users of this community... whines... Anyone here who could guide me through the process of changing my username to Naergilien...?

There isn't a way to change your username. The only thing you can do is register a brand new username. Deb

Yep, thats why I'm on my third Rendo name already. :P

You know what is right for you. I know what is right for me.

If I do register a new name, and then buy something from the MP, do I have to go through the rigmarole of credit card approval again for the first purchase - even though it wouldn't be my first by a long way :-)?

Yes you do have to do the first time buyer verification. Deb

Thanks Deb. Think I'll not bother then :-)

Well, the problem with that is only that you may purchase something twice. Once under one username, and again under a new username. That, and the fact that your old purchases wont be able to be transferred to your new username. Deb

** Yep, thats why I'm on my third Rendo name already.** Wth?? I thought rendo frowned upon clones?....that means that the member database is wrong....several times over.. I dont think anyone needs more than 1 username here..anyone else see a problem with this, or is it just me?

Bah, rendo frowns on everything... come on jumpstart... your lack of rebel fire is dissapointing.

I have two IDs on R'osity, simply so that I can give my wishlist under this ID to my more conservative family members for Christmas. :) I can just imagine Nana Gladys keeling over dead on the spot at seeing my other wishlist....

I know you can't change the actual name, but what about if you wanted to keep the same name but change the capitalization on it? For example, could "member a" change it to "Member A" for example? Just curious... Thanks in advance. Nancy

Hmmmm... So what will the store staff probably do with my submission (which is probably still tested)? In the readme file I wrote "Texture by Naergilien and Kharessa" (the latter is my muse; so I found it important to mention her...) and, as an end note, "Best wishes, Naergilien aka SPothmann"... Will the submission be returned to me because of the name? And what if - only if - I should decide to register this name as a second name - is it then possible a) to (in case that the texture is accepted even with the "wrong" name in it) transfer the texture from one merchant account to the other; or b) does the texture have to be deleted from the one account and then be re-submitted by the other (is that possible at all?) OR c) if it's likely that the texture will be returned to me anyway because of the naming, would it make sense to right away open another account and aubmit the texture once more? Sorry for asking so many (probably really dumb) questions... I know I should have found out if it was possible to change the name before submitting the texture, but, as I have said, I thought it would be easy to change the name (stupid head, should not think...).

Debbie M. ( ) posted Fri, 24 September 2004 at 3:08 AM

Well, if the texture is by 2 merchants, then 2 merchant names would have to be on the product, unless merchant #1 has permission on file from merchant 2 to distribute their work in the product. If you have more questions, please make them direct, and not hypothetically speaking :) Deb

Sorry - at the moment I can just ask hypothetical questions, as I don't know yet what the store staff will do about that readme file which contains a 'wrong' name ;-) I was also not speaking about two merchants. I was speaking about myself, if I would change my name (meaning, if I would get a second account). Sorry, I thought I had made that clear... Perhaps I should just wait and see if the texture I submitted will pass the store staff testing. Then I can still think about what to do.

Debbie M. ( ) posted Fri, 24 September 2004 at 6:24 AM

Hey spothmann, Also know that you cannot have 2 merchant accounts ok? I'm not sure if I said that before, but if you were to change your username and upload products to the new name, then you are going to be asked to make a decision as to which username you're going to broker under. Thanks! Deb

Ok, seeing as how its been ignored..let me ask it a different way.. Why are clone accounts accepted here?

They're not really accepted, but in some instances there are grounds for needing to change your username. Usually when someone has the need to change their username, they request that the old name be deleted, so what we do is ban the old name from the system. Hope that clears it up for you, Deb

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Fri, 24 September 2004 at 11:24 PM

Thanks for the reply Deb... Changing a username sounds ok..and I could understand some of the reasons one would wish to do so..but if that person doesn't request the old name to be deleted,...why are the other aliases allowed to stay so they can hop from one to the other? Shouldn't it be mandatory that the old name be deleted so RR has the true number of members, and also not have to worry with the 'troll' effect? {not calling anyone in this thread a troll..just using that as a reference}

I can see your point jumpstartme2, but we cannot cut off access to one's old name (unless they request), especially if there are purchases made on the old username. They have to be able to access their purchase history. And this is a HUGE reason why we strongly suggest against it. Thanks! Deb

There's another reason to have multiple accounts that's valid: companies. It's possible for members to come together as members of a company, and then create a company member name. This isn't particularly useful if the company is composed of three or fewer members, but if it has, oh, say 10 members, then it becomes an issue, as the store system only allows 3 folks to be listed in a product at one time.

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)
