Tried some HDRI, and one of the renders came out like this(After some extensive postwork). Now, does this look like an old photography?

I think the upper half of the image does REALLY look like an old photo. Something about the clarity of the front end of the car (to me anyway) draws it into a 3d render. It might be the lack of noise in that area. Or the clear look of the lights. over all though, this is a nice work. Great job.

It's the headlights that trip it up for me. I think it also needs a bit more foreground blur. Excellent start!!

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

I agree. Also the chrome accents are whiter than anything else(no yellow glow) & reflections in the front fender too clear. Just an observation....I absolutely love it. Very Nice!!

It is very realistic, but what gives it away for me happens to be the clarity like striving said. Try fiddling with the DOF...

I agree with the above...a little too much chrome reflection clarity and what looks like too much ambient light coming off the mat on the front tire...but brilliant stuff!!

it's too sharp, but yes, most of it DOES look like an old photo...very good work!!!

I agree with the head lights and fender reflection comments. But the scratches are a real nice touch, that adds to the old photo realism. great job!

Yep i agree with the coments on the head lights and chrome work, plus what was said on the fenders. Part from that i actually thought it was an old photo that was scanned and put up here :)

I think the foreground cobbles are too blurred. Did a search to find a similar photo, but got side-tracked whan I came across this one. What a texture in the foreground!!!

more realistic or not?

striving ( ) posted Tue, 28 September 2004 at 12:11 PM

Yep, I think that looks a lot better. The white haze around the lights still has me wondering. I understand they are glowing, but the glow seems to be white instead of the yellowed look of the image. Might just be me and my bad eyes.. lol But 100% better that the first one. The overall image could pass as a photo imo. -bruce

very convincing

LunarTick ( ) posted Tue, 28 September 2004 at 10:02 PM

yes nice job, have to agree with striving though, the white haze around the lights doesn't look right. here is an idea for you(wish i had a scanner) i'm looking at an old photo of my father and his brother taken in the 50s, there is a street light just behind them and the haze off that is a kind of yellowish colour. If you know the nicotine colour or what it looks like, try giving the image that colour to dull the haze down or take the whiteness from the light haze. But then again, the image my be to your liking as it is :)

a Very big step forward! Still having a bit of trouble with the light glow being too bright.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

Spooky very good job! I agree with the head light glow those lamps back then were not too bright you could almost make out the bulb. IMHO.
