Not only was there the earthquake, but my mom (68) in L.A. had a nasty (as if there's a good) heart attack. Paramedics got to her in time... she had 99% blockage. They've given her a stint and opened up the artery, so her blood's flowing well now. They even plan on releasing her tomarrow. Modern medicine is amazing. It was really scary there for a while. Just thought I'd share...

Glad to hear that your mom will be fine .. plenty of heart problem in my family, always scary when it happens. Fortunantly doctors are able to save a lot more lives today than what they could when I was a child.

My goodness, youve certainly have had one traumatic day today. Very glad to hear your moms doing well and will be home very soon. As I posted in your other thread, geologists are saying that the possibilities are pretty good that an even larger quake might strike there within the next week, so please be aware. Id rather prefer that theyre wrong, stay safe.

Man, 99%...very glad to hear its all going well now. My own Mom has had heart/artery problems, amazing how quickly a patient can get out of the hospital (in some cses) nowadays. I didn't even feel the eartquake...(I live in L.A.) AS

Geez, 99% is pretty damn close to lights out. Good to hear that she's picked up. My father-in-law is awaiting his triple bypass operation in a couple of days.

So glad to hear your mom is doing well. I was just talking to a woman I work with who died of a heart attack and I didn't even know it till she told me. Yep, took the third jolt to get her heart going again. But thankfully, we have modern technology and these things are possible. Best wishes for you and your mom.

Hopefully, Mom will get to come home around 10 or 11. I should arrive around that time. This is Hell. I know my folks are old, but, dammit, I'm not ready to lose one. If you have older folks, give 'em a call today or tonight.

I am glad your moms okay. I hope she takes it easy, 68 is not at all that old! I would like to call my folks now but their phone is still out from nasty ol' Jeanne. They did manage to call me and let me know they are okay, just offline and out of touch for awhile.

I was just talking to a woman I work with who died of a heart attack lol, did a double-take on that one! similar story - my brother-in-law had a heart-attack back in 1984 (he was 48) and was dead for four minutes. Since he didn't stop smoking, drinking and eating fatty food, he had another heart-attack in 1994. He had a triple-bypass after that, and at least stopped drinking!! He says he would never fear dying again - says it was just a black curtain coming down, over and out.....

woah, damn, that must have been very scary indeed! but great to hear that modern medicin was able to help her so quickly and effectively! :D

I lost one of my best friends when her heart stopped :( she was heavily injured, had been in coma for like 2 days, and then when she woke up everyone was ultra-happy thinking "now she just has to survive" and 5 minutes later her heart stopped :( docs couldn't save her. She was one of the best friends I ever had cries

Glad to hear you mum is ok, my brother had a heart attack last year, you'd hardly know it now :(

Nukeboy - I know loads of people who've had heart-attacks, and they're all leading normal lives now. The biggest problem is that just about everyone gets very depressed after a heart-attack, and that can go on for months. Don't know why, I suppose you've had such a big scare, and have had to face the fact that you're not immortal :o(

Thanks, all for the support. Got mom home from the hospital and into her favorite easy chair. She looks pretty good considering. She says she feels very good, except for being extremely tired and hurts from all of the holes that punched in her. The Doc said the blockage was so severe, that she had only ten or fifteen minutes to spare if help didn't arrive. Considering all the places she could have been (other thatn next to the phone as she was)>shiver< So I'm back home, nearly as tired. Thanks again for all of your good wishes and magic!
