Subject: Rendering and saving in high res for printing

Yes...another newbie question! (: I've been learning Poser 5 for the last month and have managed to create some great scenes...well, I think they are anyway....nothing compared to you guys yet. I can't seem to be able to get them to a size that would save or print out in a large size without affecting the quality of the image. What is the best way to save my Poser works in a large high quality print form? Thank you all! Barbara

Be careful, you're confusing printer dots and image pixels. While some very expensive printers can overcome this, pretty well everything needs an array of printer dots to get the variation in ink density needed to represent an image pixel. Note that printer drivers can do smart things with the shape of that array. Anyway, 1200 dpi from the printer is somewhere around 150dpi in the image file. OK, maybe I have that last bit wrong. But I really doubt you'll see any better quality from increasing the pixel density above 300dpi, at least for colour work.

Thank you both very much for your reply! I wasn't sure what the limits of Poser were and now I have a better idea. I make my living as a pinup artist and I make and sell my own open & limited edition prints so I have 2 very good printers and a plotter. The printer wasn't the issue ...it was getting my completed Poser image to a size that would produce a quality print and I have always been unsure about how to "save as" to acheive that from the Poser program. I'm having a great time learning and have been meeting some new and interesting people so again, thank you! I spend way too much time away from my work having fun with all this and it's very addicting....but it's too much fun not to! (:

Poser can definitely produce good print-quality material. Although I don't print out too much of my own work, I always go in with the premise that I might, and the pieces that I have printed out have been very satisfying. So, I generally render in a new window at a large size (never much below 2000x2000) at 300dpi since this can be resized in PS or whichever program you use without loss of quality. Then I almost always save as either a .tif or a .psd, as these two formats save images in uncompressed format. Hope that helpes, good luck! :) Tricia

I personally render images I inted to make prints of at 4000x3000 pixels at 300 dpi in Tiff format

always worked good for me

Thanks again all!!! I think I'm getting the idea now....I appreciate all of your help! And yes...I do have a website but not sure if it would violate TOS for Renderosity. But here it is.....just beware that there is nudity and it's for 18 years of age and up. (: Thanks again!!! http://www.eroticartistgallery.com

Hmm, interesting illustrations on your site. I think I'll put a link to your site from my own erotica site (though mine's not nearly as extensive as yours is :-). You've got a real knack for this kind of work. bonni

I chucked a few rough figures about, and if you look at digital photography, the 8-megapixel cameras are recording images of about 3600x2400 (and if I'm recalling right, this is limited by lens resolution). That's equivalent to a very good film scanner for 35mm film. You might need more for some jobs, but that strikes me as a good basic standard.
