Hey I was just wondering if anyone wanted to help out on a game project. it is called "Utopia Online" It is a multiplayer online game, similar to phantasy star online, but also much different. there are no real requirements, if you know how to use UNREAL ed, then you are definately an asset, any kind of mapper/modeller is welcomed. http://www.utopiaonlinegame.netfirms.com/ http://mods.moddb.com/hw/2884/ some links in case of interest... contact me seigmancer@hotmail.com or zeepunk@hotmail.come

Is this a commercial endeavor for profit?

SeigMancer ( ) posted Sun, 03 October 2004 at 12:09 AM

its not for profit, its to be a part of a project which could "potentially" be profitable.

LunarTick ( ) posted Sun, 03 October 2004 at 12:24 AM

therefore it is a commercial endeavor for profit, if it is something which could be "potentially" profitable must therefore be for profit.

no, you are getting it all wrong, and twisting my words. As of now this is a freebase project. Anyone of any kind of 3d skill can help out. when i meant "potentially" i mean, if we ever had a chance in heck to get paid for what we do, we would sign on the dotted line.... let me stress one last time.... this is FREEBASE, NO PROFIT project for now. (in my dreamworld, if we get signed by a bigname game company we will), all i ask is, if anyone wants to be a part of this project, they can be. It is purely for fun, creating utopias that only people can create.

No problem SeigMancer just pointing out in my own words how what you stated could be taken the wrong way :) I wish you all the luck in the world with it and i'm sure you will get the help you need.

If you know anything about game developing, especially when modding an existing engine, it's only profitable if the original developers BUY your modification. Otherwise any sort of sale of the modification is illegal. If you need weapon modellers, let me know...it's been a while since i've used MilkShape, but i think i still have it laying around somewhere. Some of my modelling work is at that site, i would advise you to ignore the heavy artillery stuff...yuck, those models are awful.

OK thanks ,we are not going to be selling this game, its all freeware, the 'Profitable" thing was more of a joke, we could use your modelling help to create some in game weapons. can you contact me via email? seigmancer@hotmail.com

Im Josh, Lead Designer/mapper/coder of this project. The basic idea of this game is to create or recreate utopian scenes in unrealed. What I would like to see is a good atmosphere mood in these places, make me really feel like im there and connect with the place you have invisioned. Totally non-profit fun place to gather, make friends, and have fun doing multiplayer activites.

To go into the profit deal alittle more, the only imediate profit I see is making friends, having fun, and learning about a widely used game engine. I don't really see commercial profit in this. There is no team, its more of an organization of designers so commercial profit from a gathering of others works doesn't sound like a good idea.
