Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 13 6:58 am)
well ill bump e.on about it aswell, but its not a incompability with amd64 just so you know do you know of any differences between that amd64 system and the two others, software and driver differences and hardware, other then the cpu of course. what are they are all running except xp pro sp2, would help alot to pin point so people can cross reference to their systems aswell.
This sounds like a definite software configuration issue; Vue 5 installed just fine on my Athlon 64-3000 running Win2k SP2 (at least after I cleaned out the detrius in the OS from previous installs left by a hard drive failure last month...). Vue 5 is a lot like VuePro; in that it has a lot more hooks into the system registry that Vue 4 ever did, and that makes is a lot more vulnerable to conflicts with your configuration. Actually, did you remove a previous version of Vue before installing? If you did, that could be the problem. Like every other Windows proggie, Vue doesn't get everything out of the registry, and there can be hidden files left behind as well. Try uninstalling what you have, then scouring the registry for any instances of 'eon' or 'E-on', and deleting the keys you know to be related to Vue in some way (the 'eon' one will give you a bunch of search hits not related, so be careful with that one). After that, do a search across your system for the same two words, only make the first one '.eon'...which is the file extension form E-on software uses. After you have everything, run something like Norton WinDoctor, to make sure you have all the trash out, and any dangling COM stubs deleted.
This could be related to the new DEP (Data Execution Protection) features that Microsoft added to SP2 to help protect against buffer overrun type security attacks. The Athlon 64 supports hardware DEP and it is turned on by standard. To test if this is the problem you can take the following steps to disable it for Vue. 1. Right click "My Computer" and choose properties from menu. 2. On advanced tab click "Settings" button 3. Select "Data Execution Prevention" tab 4. Select the radio button for "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" 5. Click the "Add" button and browse to your Vue program file and click OK 6. Vue will now be in the list of excluded programs with a ticked checkbox beside it. 7. Click OK then OK again to close the dialogs 8. Reboot the computer. 9. See if Vue runs now. I have an A64 running XP SP2 myself and so far have had to disable DEP for 3 programs (including Windows Explorer which was crashing when showing video thumbnails). However Vue 4 Pro runs fine on my machine so this may not be the reason for the Vue 5 problem your experiencing. -- Mark
