The Wacom Graphire is just about perfect for the money. http://www.wacom.com/graphire/index.htmlI have now a intuos model by Wacom. Very nice. But before i use one week the Graphire one.Intuos has better rez and better construction but, honnestly ,using it is very like using Graphire .So i recommand Graphire and it is a deal for the money. My choice was because i wanted to buy mouse 4d and it need Intuos one;i using this mouse 3 days now and i don't like it ,but too late and the price is too big for it

I also have a Wacom Graphire, but I also have and use an Acecad Acecat II tablet. Both work equally well. Visit Acecad at www.acecad.com. The Wacom comes with both a pen and a cordless mouse, whereas the Acecat II comes with a pen only and you can order what they call a "puck" mouse (super handy for drafting and CAD).Attached Link: http://www.wacom.com/tipsandcoolart/tipsarchive.html
Reasons to consider the Wacom- my favorite- free Pen Tools...I love my Wacom Graphire. But do not, not, NOT get a Pablo. They absolutely SUCK. They cost the same as a Graphire but they don't have a cordless pen and they are extremely buggy and jumpy. It was a horrible waste of money and I would have taken it back if I hadn't thrown away the paperwork. It was AWFUL.
What everyone here has said about the Graphire. BTW, I use both (6x8 Intuos at work and Graphire at home). The things the Intuos can do that the Graphire can't don't mean enough to me to justify buying the expensive one, and moreover they use the same pens, mice and drivers. Wacom is good about keeping their drivers up to date. One consideration: there's a tiny bug in some older Wacom drivers which causes Flash 4 and 5 (the application not the plugin) to crash on dual-Pentium systems. Tech support at Wacom was very friendly about walking me through the fixes necessary. And, strangely enough, it's pronounced (I kid you not) "Whack-em".
