Subject: Poser and Shoes

What is it with Poser and Poser Female Shoes? There are so many amazing shoe models... Billy-T has done simply terrific work for example... but what is it about men and ladies shoes... or women and ladies shoes? The dominant theme seems to be high heels and strap high heels.

lol didn't you shoes are a fetish , Women love to collect them, and some men love whats in the ladies Shoes.

Something about a well turned ankle in high heels. :/

nomuse ( ) posted Thu, 14 October 2004 at 2:00 PM

Heh. Nice way to "turn" a phrase, jim. Ladies' shoes are just a subset of ladies' clothes. When a man dresses up he's got a jacket or a tux. About the only thing that changes from 1910 on is the size of the lapel. Whereas female fashion changes in bewildering fashion and always has more options and variations -- and, of course, all of them need matching shoes. It has been rightly pointed out, of course, that we have a plethora of high strappy heels, and a dearth of street shoes. But then, the female Poser figures also have vastly more lingerie then they do street clothes, too. Still, if I was making a little list, it would include hiking boots, study "postal worker" shoes, house slippers, and a variety of nice boots and dress shoes with moderate heels. Not every Poser female has to be up on those 6" spikes!

I love high heel sandals - why do I hate pumps? I just think pumps are uuuugggllly. No doubt the fact that I can see a woman's foot in sandals is most of it. The funny thing is, I'm not a foot fetishist at all, but I very much prefer strappy heels to pumps.

I aggree i'd like to see real clothes more then slutty ones also don't care what decade their from just not so sleezy , so as we can start making different art with them

turtlejim ( ) posted Thu, 14 October 2004 at 2:35 PM

I am glad I am not the only one wanting "real clothes" but for me it is more practical. I am always looking for everyday business clothes for EJ so I can render her in office situations for my day job. I always like the sexy stuff but not very likely I will ever use them.

Some while back I posted a tongue-in-cheek "Victorian Manifesto" in which I called for fewer naked-vickie-in-a-temple pics and more fully-realized period pieces. As I discussed in the manifesto, and the threads that followed it, the difficulty is that one needs much material to make an 1880 London street scene (or a 2004 Ginza street scene, for that matter). To make it as easy to gather up the appropriate Victoriana -- horses, tack, hansom cabs, street lights, apple-sellers, urchin clothes, parasols, walking boots, gentlemen's wear, cobblestones, wrought iron, Bathstone and London Stock brick, opera capes and ermine trims -- as it is to gather up a sword, a temple, and a tattoo, we need to motivate and gather enough creators around the subject. It needs a central clearing house, a link farm, a friendly place where people can ASK for non-lingerie items and get immediate response. I thought the Victorian age might be a good subject for this sort of development. Thanks to the tireless efforts of, I think, a bare handful of creators frontier America is beginning to look plausible. Key parts of the infrastructure still need to be identified and built to make it truly possible for the recovering naked-vickie addict to come in, pick up the props and costumes they need, and render off a pic of a frostbitten old gold-panner in gold rush Alaska. Fuedal Japan is also coming along, but slowly. The big advantage it has (besides cross-over; a tea room is a tea room, whether it be in Edo or Mega-Tokyo), is the tireless Japanese Poser community (out of which has recently came a fantastically detailed historical castle set). Sorry, I'm rambling a bit. The shoes are not a problem sui generis; they are part of a larger shortage.

For V3, there are a lot of good high heels and boots on the market. Unfortunately, there are not too many good flats and low heels. I would like to see more athletic shoes and casual shoes such as moccasins. For SP3, the choices are really limited. A woman with less shoes (and bigger feet) than me -- poor thing!!

Starkdog ( ) posted Thu, 14 October 2004 at 10:56 PM

Speaking of big feet, why does SP3 have bigger feet than V3, if she is "petite"??? I am a newbie, but with plenty of CAD background, and am presently going berserk trying to create shoes that fit the characters. Other than looking at other people's UV maps, and reverse engineering, is there a specific foot dimension or size for the characters, e.g. size 8 wide width??? -The Starkdog

Your not the only one who's asked this question before.... quite a number of us have done so in the past. Where are normal shoes? Where are the normal clothes. After all most of us are not waering the stuff being sold most in day to day life. Managed to find a nice looking pair of shoes around here though, going to get them soon. But that was the best I could come up with.

Nomuse, if you really want a frostbitten grizzled gold-panner in 1899's Alaska, hie thee to Rdna-- they have great cowboy outfits, spittons, cigars, western towns of the gold rush period-- in ghost town drag if you want, they even have the grizzled morphs for the 49er, or whatever year it was up North. No pan, bt I'll bet Traveller would whip one up for freestuff. For realistic settings you can't beat the modular sets at Rdna. For sci-fi and Fantasy sets stick to Danie and Marforno, right here. I like your new PT tunic, by the way-- good job. Emily

Normal clothes? Try poserworld, it's well worth the subscription

I'm a pw member too and while they have a great collection normal clothes, there are hardly any shoes there too.
