Owing to the amount of response to this image, I though I would make a few additional comments. This was shot on a late summer night in Oban it had been an awful day and had rained all day. Having given up on the days photography I went into Oban for dinner, after which just on impulse I decided to have a shot at some night photography as I had never tried it before. This was one of the results. Apart from the rather unusual reflection effects from the sky in the water, I felt it was a rather average image and more or less ignores the rule of thirds (that wasnt really possible due to obstacles) I decided to use it for the challenge only because of the long exposure rather than its overall appearance, although it is quite pleasing on the eye and maybe a little unusual I didnt really expect it to attract much attention. I seem to be wrong (so much for what I know) he he! The thing that amazes me about photography is that now and then something that I feel is average gets lots of attention whilst images that I think are great attract much less, what a diverse bunch we are. Maybe I can Tedz, you are an expert in many things and especially layers. As I remember you are using a Canon camera?! I would think that somewhere there must be a setting to change your shutter speed possibly a tv (time value) or manual function. I would think that you would need either a manual function or at least a Semi automatic function that allows you to adjust the shutter speed. Most cameras have this ability unless it is fully point and shoot auto only. Which begs one question I guess? What camera have you got?

I use a Canon Powershot G5 ....I hope this Thread is Confidential...I don't want others to know that I can't manage the Challenge....they may loose Faith in My HC abillities....and My Virtual Wooing :]

On the top dial select TV mode and the camera will attempt to select the best aperture for a proper exposure. Shutter speed is displayed on the LCD, press the left / right arrows to select different shutter speeds. The cameras exposure system will calculate the aperture, the LCD view changes to reflect the look of the final image. If the exposure is outside the cameras exposure range the aperture will appear in RED Available shutter speeds for the G5 are 15 sec to 1/2000 (in stop increments I think) I think this should help PS I dont think your abillities are in doubt!

tvernuccio Thanks for your nice comments. The mist is actually the reflection from the sky I think it looks like mist because of the movement of the water during the long exposure. LP

He He Dont forget that as per Albert Einsteins theory of relativity time slows down, when you near the speed of light, so if you are trying this on the Mothership you will have to calculate the time shift :-)
