Hello!

I have to reinstall Windows on my PC... and now there is this question: Is it possible to save the character, hair, probs ... folders to CD and copy them pack OVER the new Installation of Poser 5? Would that work with Poser5 ... i don't want to reinstall all the models again!

Any experiences with that?

THX for reading

You could try backing up your runtime folder then when you have reinstalled windows and poser copy the backed up runtime into poser,Hope this helps. worked for me,Blue2000

was it a windows crash, or is it an update? Generally as a rule of thumb, you don't loose anything on your drive when installing windows execpt the OS files. I have reinstalled my windows 3 times and never had any problems with my poser. In fact I have reinstalled poser5 4 times on my computer, and simply add the old runtime to it. BUT!!!, every pc is different, so copy the contents of the runtime folder, save to cd, then if needed, reload them back into poser, or keep it as a backup runtime.

I have done this so many times. The best thing to do is uninstall Poser 4/5. This will remove all the junk that the program installed initially. Then copy what it leaves behind (uninstalls do not remove any content you added after your initial install). Copy your Runtime folder either to a CD or DVD depending on the size of your Runtime (mine takes over 5 DVDs). Besides the Runtime folder, you may have to copy other folders/files that are also in your Poser 4/5 folder that may be relevant to your models. After you have reformatted your hard drive and installed Windows, reinstall Poser and copy the contents of your CD/DVD Runtime folder back into the new installation folder. If you have an external hard drive, as I do, you can do a copy to that instead of CD/DVDs, and unplug it during your hard drive reformatting (which I have to do). My system has the internal drive partitioned and both are formatted. The external drive has to be unplugged so whenever I do this all the content I want to recopy back is saved to that first.

Poser 5 is great because it allows you to created external Runtimes. You can backup the external Runtimes very easily. I got smart and took advantage of that fact. The only thing that gets installed into Poser 5 is the !DAZ libraries for Mike 3, Vicki 3, etc.
