Hi the link to my site is now fixed, I had trouble with Fortunecity all day long yesterday. Now it's up to lavers to check them out and upload them. To tell you the truth I haven't had any pop ups with fortunecity but I just saw the new pop up killer, embedded in Internet explorer, that came with SR2. I'm really sorry about them and I wish I could do something about it. I'm so glad you like them, I thought of making a glass carriage too but I don't know if it's ergonomical or not:) I know I should have waited before announcing them but I can never wait once I finish a frebie. I hope they'll be up soon. Niki
Well the pictures are now there and the redirect is gone, but the links below each lead to "page cannot be found". Hope this can get fixed soon.
I think Niki is sincere in her offer. However, the popups are an issue for a lot of us. Sites like Fortunecity seem to take advantage of their members by using them as income generators for advertisers.
I would hope that someone else would offer Niki a reliable site to post her wonderful models. Maybe someplace like PlanIt3d would be a good alternative??
Note: Correction....not "models", but textures. Didn't want to create confusion :) By the way.....where does one get Isaurs carriage?

Thank you sandoppe, of cource I don't like pop ups but there's really nothing I can do about it. You can go directly to Laver's place if you want to http://www.lavers-place.com/ The Carriage is by Isauras and is included in the My lady package that can be found at Daz3D. It's a beautiful model and the textures it comes with are more than excellent. I'm sure they'll be up soon, it's out of my hands I'm afraid. If anyone would like to have them sooner, please feel free to contact me at seeker@otenet.gr and I'll be happy to send them via email. Niki
Ignoring the issue of textures and redirecting websites etc, I have some constructive criticism to offer from an engineering point of view on the carriage itself. At first glance it looks very impressive, but.... 1. The axles are way way too large in diameter compared with the rest of the metalwork. Even in the good old days they wouldn't over engineer one part at the expense of all the others. They might add all sorts of twiddly bits, but not plain heavyweight metal. In fact, I suspect that most axles would not have been cylindrical at all, but would have been made from wood and roughly rectangular in cross section, and arched so as to provide a degree of inherent springing. 2. There doesn't seem to be any axis for the front axle to rotate about, so steering may have been a bit iffy, with an infinite turning circle. 3. I'm not too sure what era this vehicle is from but my general impression is that it would probably have had axles suspended from leather straps attached to springy metal supports, rather than hung from leaf springs. 4. If these are indeed leaf springs they don't seem to actually have any leaves - well, only one not very springy one. 5. The axles (and the rear axle in particular) don't seem to have any mechanism to hold them in place and resist torsion. In the good old days they didn't have MIG welders so had to rely on metal plates and four bolts (each side) to hold the axles in place. In fact, manny cars still use that method today. This carriage looks so flimsy that hitting the smallest bump would make the axle rotate and shear off. 6. I think the driver would have been provided with a back rest of some sort, however rudimentary. Employment and health and safety legislation was a bit thin on the ground then, but so were good drivers. 7. The chassis is seriously flimsy. OK for Disney cartoons, but not for bumpy roads - and even the best roads then were seriously bumpy. 8. The lights (whether candle, oil or carbide) would have reflectors so as to provide some illumination (however meagre) of the road ahead. They are not there to make the carriage look 'twee', but to help the driver (Home James, and don't spare the horses) negotiate badly rutted tracks with no street lights. 9. The springing of the driver's seat just wouldn't have been like that. As shown the seat would tip backwards and forwards as the carriage went over bumps. This is a feature that definitely would use leaf springs, however rudimentary, so that the seat would move up and down without any rotational movement. 10. The wheels seem to be made of welded steel rod, before the days of welders, whereas I suspect most would have been made from wood with the spokes shaped with a spokeshave (hence the name) and a steel rim or, in later years, a solid rubber tyre. Sorry for being a pedant, but we engineers are like that. That's why most buildings and bridges don't fall down, Tacoma Narrows excepted, but we did learn from that one. Maz
Maz:)LOL I'm pretty sure you're quite right. I've taken a few engineering classes too and I can see most of the faults you see too but don't forget that this is poser fantasy world and it is a gorgeous model. Besides, I'm just texturing it, the model is by Isauras and I for one don't care one single bit if it's correct or not. Also don't forget that it came with a pack made for the Girl, a toon character. PS Imagine the comments I'd get if I made the Glass one too. Talking about Fantasy world:)

Hi Niki, Yes I realised it was intended as a fantasy vehicle, which is why I made the reference to Disney, though I hadn't realised that it was intended for the Girl. I might have have been a bit more lenient If I'd known that. Because Poser is so versatile it's sometimes hard to know at what level of seriousness to take any model or scene. Can't fault youir textures though. Regards, Maz
Well if that was only your third attempt, I'd suggest you stick at it. Some of the things you've done there are actually quite difficult, particularly the curves in the canopy and the seat padding. I try to avoid doing cloth or flesh when 3D modelling because they curve in all directions. Things made of wood and metal are much easier. As for improving realism, the most noticeable thing is that the framework for the canopy seems to be made from two inch electrical trunking and should be a lot thinner. The wheels actually look more realistic than the ones on the other carriage. They could be turned into pretty good ones fairly easily. My main criticism would be the colour of the wheels. Yuck! If you want to e-mail me the obj file I'll have a go at it for you. I won't commit to a timescale for completion though. maz@sandylodge.demon.co.uk
Thank you guys for all the nice things you said about my work!!! This is the main reason why I make free stuff, so that you'll like and enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. Perhaps I'll give modelling another try. If Maz can help me to straighten this carriage out I'll put it in freestuff. The files are now up and you can download them through either my site or Lavers place.

So I made the Poor Man's carriage, mentioned in a previous post, as a favor for a friend but it's so easy to texture that I decided to make a couple more. "Textures for the Carriage by Isauras included in the My Lady set that can be found at DAZ. There are included Textures and Bump maps along with MAT poses for easy application. Everything should unzip in place. This has only been tested in Poser 5. The bump map node must be corrected by hand because of the known P5 problem, move the Bump texture to the "Bump" and set it to about 0,05. Hope you like them. Free for Commercial and non-commercial use." So what do you guys think? I've uploaded them to Laver's Place that kindly hosts all of my files and you'll be able to get them from my site also. Just give it a couple of hours since Fortunecity doesn't work for me right now and they have to be checked by Laver's also. Hope you enjoy them Niki
