Poser Porn gets national recognition... "The three faces of "toon porn," from left to right: "Hentai," a hard-core school of cartooning from Japan; the Americanized version, featuring recognizable characters or genres from U.S. comics; and 3-D, anatomically correct avatars, created using computer software..."

Well, there are those who say it was porn that pushed the internet boom of the mid 90's, and shaped e-commerce as we see it today, just like porn arguably made the VCR such a popular home entertainment format..

So I'm not surprised that it's gaining in popularity among toon/comic fans on the net as well. Seems like there's a lot of Poser users involved in this too.

Hmmm, flash forward a couple of weeks and the religious right is up in arms about pornographers pushing their vile ware on "our children" using cartoons. Remember the Joe Camel flap? Vicky sez vote early and often.

Oh, now that the "word" of toon porn has hit the mainstream, it's not unlikely that sites like this one will soon see a surge in religeous zealots condemning Poser. Poser is actually a big contributing factor to the production of non-anime "toon porn" on the net it seems. Probably because using it makes the stuff efficient to produce, easy to learn, etc. etc. You won't see many "3dsMax" or "Maya" 3D porn out there, but I get hit with spam for Poser Porn all the time in my email. Don't know why... I'm not a member of any porn sites or newsletters. LOL ;-)

Hehe. Maybe Mel Gibson will remake a TOON version of "The Passion", all blood and gore included. I'm sure they'd have no problem with that. ;-)

This really isn't much new, remember "Heavy Metal" the cartoon movie?? That Blood Rayne chickie made me chuckle actually, no wonder my brother likes that game so much ;)

lmckenzie ( ) posted Tue, 19 October 2004 at 10:19 PM

Some folks would rather have their 8 year old see 'The Passion'than 'Harry Potter.' HP promotes witchcraft so it's probably only a step above porn if that.

Porn, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. I think The Passion os just porn for sado-masochists and worshoppers of Molach and Baal. lol

It gets even MORE interesting in Part Two of the article... "Toon porn providers also received a shock from an unexpected quarter earlier this year, when a Japanese publisher was sentenced to a year in jail for distributing obscene manga, or comic book. The prosecution of Monotori Kishi over production of the magazine Misshitsu ("Honey Room") marked the first ruling in Asia to declare a comic book obscene, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported."

SeanMartin ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 12:27 AM

This really isnt anything new at all. Someone mentioned HEAVY METAL the movie: hell, the magazine was far more obvious about it all. And what mainstream comic book company hasnt done a "swimsuit edition" of its characters in skimpy bikinis? This is just the logical extension of it all, and frankly I'm surprised it took Playboy this long to figure out the possibilities.

I looked at some Japanese news coverage and apparently it wasn't any specific sexual nastiness that got him in trouble. It seems he ran afoul of the censorship laws by having explicit, unobscured illustrations of genitals in his work--still officially a no no in Japanese erotica. According to the judge: "Bodies were drawn in a lifelike manner with little attention to concealment (of genitalia), making for sexually explicit expression and deeming the book pornographic matter," Nakatani said as he convicted Kishi" Schoolgirls being ravished by tentacle monsters is still OK as long as you don't show the goodies.

I thought Heavy Metal, the magazine, was dead. But to my happy surprise its still alive. I was flipping through the Nov. 2004 issue just last night at work. 8-)

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 3:00 AM

Heavy Metal started as a French magazine, as I recall. If there's any problem with the internet, it's that it blurs the boundaries between cultures. And, from here in Europe, it's you Americans who look like crazy weirdo foreigners, corrupting our youth, etc., etc..

Veritas777 ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 3:38 AM

Yes, reguarding Japanese law and culture, -it is endlessly amazing that Japanese can come up with some of the best porno on the planet- with fiendishly wild, exotic, erotic and over the top kinky-ness- but showing female genitals in a CARTOON will land you in jail. Heh! I wonder if Osama bin Laden is a secret subscriber to Heavy Metal? It wouldn't surprise me!

FishNose ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 3:49 AM
  1. Yes, Heavy Metal is based on 'Metal Hurlant', French, mid-seventies. 2. The reason tantacles got so popular in the first place is because you can't show penises. But tentacles are not penises, so they don't have to be pixelated - except at the point of entry of course :o) But then tentacles are more fun. I mean penises, that's so old and tired lol. A lot of the stuff on the web has the pixels in the critical area inverted & mirrored (color & position) - so with the right PShop action or similar you can fix it fairly easily. If you have the patience. :] Fish

There was even a program Flmask or something like that which would "unmask" some images. As for Americans being "crazy weirdo," you mean the whole world isn't obsessed with God, Guns and Gays?

God ? Who's that guy ? Taken from the article : "Some cartoon porn sites undoubtedly cross boundaries that could land their operators in prison if humans were involved, including depictions of rape, incest and sex with children, often perpetrated by aliens rather than humans." This is something tricky, on which I am undecided myself. On one hand I am disgusted at some pictures of "faeries" which are just a cover up for kid porn. On the other hand, I've always been annoyed by people objecting to a picture showing a young and/or petite adult woman in an erotic pose because this picture was based on a morphed version of the so-called "Pre-Teen" cr2. As for Metal Hurlant, there has been a movie length cartoon in the late seventies (or very early 80s) called Metal Hurlant (or Heavy Metal). The heroine was named Tarna if I remember well. Her outfit has long been available as a freebie for Posette. PS : We should really have a forum called "The Veritas Weekly", or something like that.

lmckenzie ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 6:39 AM

Unfortunately, those who would ban the faeries wouldn't stop there any more than they would be content with banning "partial birth" abortion or Janet Jackson's nipple in prime time. I'm convinced that reasonable people will meet their undoing in trying to compromise with those for whom thinking and reason are an anathema.

I didn't even know little orphan annie was a real character when i was a kid, or for that matter, pippy longstocking and betty boop. i thought they were just cartoon characters in my dad's secret stash of naughty mags.

lmckenzie ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 2:24 PM

You mean "real" as in legitimate comic characters I assume? Pippy Longstocking! Was nothing sacred? I'm sure 'Dick' Tracy was a great source of inspiration as well. Never did see Snuffy Smith though. I still wish someone would do a poser version of Lil' Abner's Moonbeam McSwine. Now there was a babe.

Well, there you have it -- it's ok to invade weak, sovereign nations using omnicidal weapons like depleted uranium (DU) munitions, but g_d help you if you show a cartoon vagina or a near-40 breast on national tv. I now have no doubt whatsover that we are on the treadmill to extinction. Evidently we deserve it. lol

One serious comment: different countries have different laws, different definitions of "children", and don't always make a distinction between a photograph and a drawing. So be careful. Some of those differences are, no doubt, behind some of the Renderosity rules.

Tguyus ( ) posted Thu, 21 October 2004 at 3:51 PM

Interesting to try to fathom what motivates the critics' objections to so-called "toon porn." I always thought one of the key arguments against pornographic material involving real people was that the actors / actresses were being personally degraded and exploited. But with Poser art, it's hard to argue the electrons involved in creating the images are feeling exploited or degraded. But who knows, maybe electrons are actually sentient beings who are vulnerable to ostracization down there in their tiny little sub-atomic society. Hey, this could be a new cause celebre for the religious zealots of the world: "All life is precious, and it begins at quarkhood! Stop the immoral abuse of electrons NOW!"

Disclaimer: I'm just having fun here. No offense intended. Apologies to any humans, religious fanatics, Poser characters, or subatomic particles I might have inadvertently offended.

Oh...does that mean I'm in trouble with the new "Rated MA" area I put on my site for sexy naked renders and my EQ strip club project(it's a long story)? =P I'm contributing to toon porn!!! (whatever shall I do?) Yah know...if some people spent more time talking to their children and instructing them as to what's out there I think there would be a lot less problems...but instead they hide them and shield them and then wonder what goes wrong later in life. Explain why it's not something for their little eyes until they get older, then it won't be such a big deal. (then again...I also think young children should not be allowed to browse the internet unsupervised, safeguards and "parental controls" or not...if I had kids they'd probably hate me) My mother wouldn't just tell me I couldn't watch or see something at a certain age when I was younger...she would explain why and that when I was older and understood more I would be ready. Ya know what? It worked. By the time I watched more "mature" movies or shows I was ready...and it wasn't any big deal. Of course I did grow up attached to her old anatomy book, so there wasn't much mystery to the human body for me. (will stop rambling now and go to bed)

Strip club project, where, where? My obsession is trying to figure out why at the dawn of the 21st Century, the world's most advanced nation has devolved into an anti-scientific, anti-intellectual race with fundamentalist Islam to see who can retreat to the 5th Centure fastest. Iread of a conversation someone had with an evangelical friend who said that he didn't want to be exposed to any facts that might cause him to doubt his faith. I don't mind anyone clinging to their quaint beliefs in witchcraft and creationism but when they're running the govenrment, it's very scary indeed.

My strip club project (just stills at the moment...haven't had time to figure out animations in Poser...but it is floating through my mind for eventual additions) is something I started for some friends... www.realmofsavage.com -- after you get to the welcome page, it's the "Rated MA" link at the bottom of the list. It's pretty self explanitory from there.
