The Star Destroyer is now a Poser prop! That's right- finally, a Poser-safe version of this famous starship.

No textures are needed.
And as is usual for my stuff, an obj file is included in the zip file... which means that you can also use this ship in other graphics programs!

Note 1: This is a "streamlined" version- it does not include all of the bumpy detailing found on the real ship. Adding all of the bumps as polygons would take too long... and make the file size too big. :)

Note 2: this is not a members-only download. Everyone is free to download it.

And check out the interactive WireFusion model at:

I reckon there could be a lot that could be done with (depending on Poser version) bump maps or displacement maps. Now. anyone got any ideas for getting very bright lights in the engines?

I'm glad everyone likes it. And I'm honored that I would get a bad pun from Dr. Geep. :-) Hmm... if I made a "Blockade Runner" model, how many people would try to make their own version of the opening scene to Star Wars? :) In the meantime, you can make your own opening scene to The Empire Strikes Back: camera pans down to Star Destroyer, which releases probes from the main hangar bay (use Poser's spheres in place of probes). Or, from Return of the Jedi: camera pans down, Star Destroyer comes into view, Imperial Shuttle (also a freebie, made by me) launches from forward shuttle bay. You'll have to use an image of the second Death Star as a background, though. --John

If that's how they look in the movies now, Lucas the DVDs buggered about with he has. (The original models used very bright lights in the engines.)

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 22 October 2004 at 7:38 PM

maybe a sphere mostly inside the engine, with a high ambient setting could make that lighting effect. I think that the star destroyer scenes werent changed much.
