Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
You can change the order in P5 by going into folder options in the main folders and change it to "type" or something else instead of by "name" which is what it sounds like it's on now. You can also add folders in your library pallet with P5 to make finding stuff easier ( additional runtime not needed in P5). For example in the Characters folder of your library pallet, make a sub folder for Mike3 and another for V3 for instance or you could just do a sub folder for DAZ stuff. Do you see waht i mean here. The same can be done in the props folder or any other folder in the pallet library. For instance, Poses, make sub folders for "mat" poses and another for actual positional poses and another for character inject poses. This is how mine is set up and I find it really easy to use.

Both of them are right. The top level library folders -- cahracter, props, pose, face, etc -- are hard coded into the system and must show as they are. If you change them, they will vanish. That said, if you are really hip with XML, you can rearrange the order of them. But doing so will likely drive you batty.
thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)
Ok, now, I've apparently hit on a snag here...I've got a bunch of files inside a major folder that are not in alphabetical order. Some are all the way at the bottom of the list, some go automatically into the list in the proper place...how do I get the list of files I see to correct itself and alphabetize a - z?
Folder management isn't just a case of how Poser does it. If you go through the "view" tab in the drop down menus of where your folders are then you will see another side menu saying "arrange icons by" and then that gives you other options like "type, size, name etc." Tick whichever of these you want to display your sub folders or folders in. Bobbie Boucher is right also, a slight change like upper or lower case or a letter in the wrong place will make a difference.

Changing the name of the major folders (those that poser expects to find automatically) will almost definitely cause a problem. Changing the names of files/folders within folders will not cause a problem unless some other file refers to that file folder. Windows file/folder names are case insensitive. for windows "A" = "a". Poser's filing system is case sensitve. "A" most certainly does not = "a". (guess: this is most probably likely to be due to the fact that Poser has to work cross-platform,; Windows is case insensitive, but Unix (and the Mac) is not.) Since the original post was about the ordering of files within the (poser) libraries, the answer is: No. You can't do that within Poser. What you CAN do though is re-name the various files/sub-folders (using an external app. eg, if you're using windows, the explorer) within the top-level folder. The only problem I ever had using this approach was with the DAZ inj/rem all MAT poses. The original files expected to be able to find the various sub-files where the installer had loaded them. (I found an update on the DAZ site which appeared to cure this, but by then I'd already edited the inj/rem all pz2s so that they worked.) Sorry if this post seems garrilous and unconnected; it isn't (but my mind is a little..) Cheers, Diolma
You don't want to change the names of Geometry files or folders. Poser will go nuts if it can't find that stuff. You can change the names of the folders within the Libraries. Example: change "Morphing clothes" to "Mike's Clothes." You can change the names of individual items within Libraries. Example: change "Michael's Shirt" to "Mike's shirt." You could change the names of Texture folders if you got the free version of CorrectReference (CR). You might not want to go through all that work. CorrectReference Pro (CRPro makes everything much easier. But you have to buy it.)
