Last year I downloaded a Vespa motor bike in 3DS format that he created at http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/meshes/meshvehicles.asp, and I have a question for him regarding it. So I would like to contact him. I want to know if I could release a poserized, recolored and accessorized version of it to the poser community as a freestuff. Ive always wanted a Fooly Cooly bike, and his is the closest model Ive found. I would give him full credit for the original model of course. Also, any modified version that I would upload would be completely free, as his original model was free as well. I would make no profit. I'm simply looking for him so that I may gain his authorization to upload a modified version.

Have you tried Googling his name? You never know what might turn up with Google.com

I found an address when I Googled "David Lam" and 3ds. When I sent a message, I received a "Delivery Status Notification Failure". Also, last week I e-mailed a person whom I assume to be a manager at the site from where I downloaded the model, and Ive yet to hear back from him. Ive left a message similar to this one at the message board of the site where the model was found, but so far no one has replied. The model zip came with no read-me.

Hrm.... I sense a disturbance in the force Luke! LOL! Seriously though, check for the redistribution files on that site if any exist. I know Tobor doesn't include readme's with a lot of his old Sci-Fi stuff but his download page pretty much states if you can improve them(The meshes) feel free to do so. You can also do a whois on the domain name and see if you can find an Admin Email address for a better response on that website. Just a few suggestions hoping they help.

By the way, here is an update to the Vespa model. Totorovianclub has been so kind as to model a new seat and fin thingy for the front wheel. Now it looks foolier and coolier. I suggest you go see his gallery. He is very talented. ^_^

Hmm... Those are good ideas Steve. Thank you. ^_^

I'm hoping to add the Poserised Vespa to my runtime. You know those Robinsons! Lost in Space had room for EVERYTHING in that space ship from Washing Machines to Beach Balls!!! I'm sure they could fit a Vespa somewhere in the Jupiter 2! O.o

The site I downloaded the model from says, "By using any of 3DTotal's downloads or by advancing further within this site, or by accessing the following download pages you and/or your company explicitly agree with these following terms and conditions. 3DTotal, and all its contents, is copyrighted by Tom Greenway 1999-2002, unless specifically stated (As with many case in the libraries and galleries) All of the models/texture maps available on 3dtotal maybe used royalty-free in your own work but they may not be used for any commercially or profit related purposes of any kind (please see the 3dtotal CD section for commercial textures). Also, these meshes/textures may not be sold individually or included in, or sold as, or provided for free in, a collection of any kind or any other electronic transfer methods. . Please also rememeber you must always credit the individual who originally created the model. This credit must appear within your work and by using the model/s on 3DTotal you agree that you will do this. " I'm sure a Vespa will look great in your ship Steve. Even the new bikes look a little retro. ^_~

Well there's a legalese loophole right there which doesn't forbid free redistribution of "Modified" Meshes as long as the original author is given his due credit. It only states that they can't be redistributed for free "as is". But then again, a good lawyer could pick that argument apart without breaking a sweat if the owner wanted to take issue with it and back up said issue with cash. The "included in" portion could be read to include modifications by an astute lawyer I believe.

Well, I graduated High School with a Peter Lam... dunno if he had a brother named David, but he had a couple younger sisters... ;-D

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Hi Val. (^_^)/ Steve I take "these meshes may not be included in or provided for free in, a collection of any kind or any other electronic transfer methods" as meaning don't zip and redistribute. Hmm.... That's why I'd like to find the modeler, as the site I downloaded it from has so far not been very helpful.

SteveJax ( ) posted Sat, 23 October 2004 at 11:52 PM

That's what I meant. I was just pointing out that it could be taken as a loop hole that it doesn't mention modified versions but one that a lawyer could argue against pretty strongly if someone were to fight for the mesh. When in doubt. Don't!

So how do I do a "whois" search on the domain name and then find the Admin e-mail address?

SteveJax ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2004 at 2:40 PM

Do a google search for "Whois" and you'll find several sites that offer the service for free. WHOIS gives all kinds of domain name information such as contact emails and phone numbers.

kusanagi73 ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2004 at 3:26 PM

Okay, I found webmaster@3dtotal.com, so I'll be giving them a ring.

kusanagi73 ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2004 at 4:44 PM

I received another delivery status notification failure. They are not making this easy.

kusanagi73 ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2004 at 4:52 PM

I'm still looking, but I'm not having any luck with the whois thing. Does anyone feel like lending a hand?
