Subject: Mac user needs help

I am a Mac user and would like to move my Runtime folder either onto a cd or possibley to an external hard drive. When I tried this P4 crashed and I had to put the folder back in the main Poser folder. Does anyone know how I might do this. I also have many other Mac related Questions and would love to talk to other Mac users. Thanks

Check the "read me" doc that comes with MartinCs' MacInstaller program. I believe he mentions something about that possibility. There are several MAC users in this & Carrara forum so just ask-away (most of the stuff is fairly common to both OS's).

If your intention is to free up hard disk space by moving your Poser libraries from the Runtime folder to another media (CD or external hard drive) you needn't move the Runtime folder itself. I believe Poser won't allow the actual folder to be moved anyway. But willf is correct about MartinC's MacInstaller. It's been a while since I read the "read me," but I seem to recall that Macinstaller can create a file called ExtraRuntime, which will allow you to store Runtime files outside of the Runtime folder itself. MacInstaller should still be downloadable from "freestuff" under "utilities". Good luck...

Welcome nazareth! You can get my tools from the link above, and indeed Macinstaller can partially help you with your problem. It won't allow you to move Runtime away, but it gives you three different choices of installation: - into Runtime (the classic way) - into ExtraRuntime (a separate folder, sitting next to Runtime) - left where they originally are In your case, the third option will be best. Go to "Destinations" and set Libraries and Geometries to "Source", the textures will be controlled by the popup-menu of the main dialog. This way, all of the files will stay wherever they are at the moment of your installing, but Poser will use them just like its own Runtime stuff. Cheers, MartinC
