A powerful scene, though I see a couple of things that could improve it tremendously. The carpet texture is just too distracting, that and there's just too darn much of it. ;) Maybe bring the walls in a little, make the room smaller. Also, I think the lighting needs a little work. Sorry, but I'm no expert there, so there's not much I can suggest. Would you like a table cloth that you could stick the chair under, rather than having to place it away from the table? Let me know. Looking good so far! :)
It would be great to put the chair right up to the table. The seat is 25.89 tall and 20.48 wide. The ribbon is great! The funny thing is I don't want it too bright but the one light in the candle lights up the whole thing on a brightness of 10. Is there any way I can block the light channeled by the vase to the bottom of the wall by the coat rack? If I move the wall closer it is much more apparent.
DId you try going in to sky lab and turning off the sun then turning off the atmosphere and setting the sky to black? That should give you a completely black scene other than the candle light. I would also turn ambience all the way off on all textures. The coat rack in particular looks like it has some ambient glow. You could also try adding just a slight bump map to the table cloth...just for grins
I could probably just resize the table cloth and it still look good. I don't remember which, I think it was the atmosphere ambience or something, I turned it to black and it turned the candle flame black. It was cool but not what I wanted at the time. Thanks for helping me out. I am learning so much on this scene.
Here's a thought (powerful strong coffee this morning) - remains of food on plate, used cutlery, used wine-glass, chair pulled out at an angle where the diner has left. On the opposite side of the table an unused plate, cutlery, napkin etc.. Perhaps an engagement ring box by the used plate, for additional poignancy. Though, looking at it again, it is more subtly lonely and sad as it is. Forget I spoke.......
Here is the point behind the scene(notice the flag hanging from the coat rack): This table set for one is small...it symbolizes the frailty of one prisoner alone against his or her suppressors. The table cloth is white...symbolizing the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call to arms. The single rose displayed in a vase...signifies the blood they may have shed in a sacrifice to ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America. It also reminds us of the families and friends of our comrades in arms who keep faith, while awaiting their return. The red ribbon...tied so prominently on the vase, is reminiscent of the red ribbon worn upon the lapel and breast of thousands, who bear witness to their unyielding determination to demand a proper accounting for our missing.(not in this image, didn't have the ribbon) The candle...is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to illuminate their way home, away from their captors, to open arms of a grateful nation. A slice of lemon...is on the plate to remind us of their bitter fate. There is salt...sprinkled upon the bread plate symbolic of the countless family tears as they wait. The glass is inverted...they cannot toast with us at this time. The chair...is empty...They are NOT here.
