Subject: My First HDRI image

lululee ( ) posted Thu, 28 October 2004 at 7:40 AM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 8:34 PM

Here is a post of my first HDRI image in Vue5. I just got Vue 5 yesterday so please be kind as it took me awhile just to get adjusted to the new software. I used the galileo_probe.hdr from the site Veritas has in his thread. I also used settings that Veritas has posted. I brought in the Daz cyclorama for the background. It is rendered at 640 x 480 and took over an hour to render. Any comments on how to improve the quality or render time would be much appreciated. I am finding that I have to restart my computer every 1/2 hour if I import any new Poser items into my scenes. After that the software crashes. I have 2 gigs of ram. Vue Pro does not have this problem. cheerio lululee

Wonderful first image, thumbs up ! The lightning on the skin seems a little bit too strong. I think you can reduce the portion of doom light and/or check the reflections of the skin mat. Vue 5 has some bugs with the memory, hope e-on will update asap. -Norbert

GaaaaH! YOU beat me to it, Lululee! NICE first time render- it took me a while to figure out the lighting with HDRI. As nhirschberger said, the dome light adjust is your best primary control. The second is the color of the light itself- I've found that by introducing a browner tone (red-yellow-dark mix) that you can get a look that better matches Poser's own default lighting setup-- and which most Poser babe skin is designed for. Both Vue (and Bryce) tend to default to a "Blue-er" main light- which is generally fine for scenic work, but not interiors with Poser Babe skin. And, yes, the other main thing to tweak is to look at her mats in the Material Summary and then go in and maybe adjust the skin using the Advanced Material Editor--- go all the way over to EFFECTS and adjust down the Diffuse and maybe Ambient settings- just a bit-- BUT only do these AFTER you have set your main dome light controls and the main light color- so it becomes a final bit of tweaking... On your computer issues- I am puzzled- I have used Vue 5 on my Athlon 64 and my older P-III with only 512MB ram and have not had any problems with Vue 5. My first GUESS always is that your graphics card driver is not current?

Here's the color control I'm talking about.

BTW- you can speed up HDRI renders a lot more by going into USER rendering settings and checking Optimize Last Render Pass (but not checking Enable Motion Blurring). The render will have a small percent less of fine detail but in most cases you won't see the difference. Not everyone will like that, however (I'm sure).

Also- Lululee, what Operating System are you using?

Thanks so much for the screen shot and info about the render pass. I will try that. I am in XP. I believe my drivers are current because I just went from Win2k to XP 2 months ago. when i do the test video drivers it tells me they are compatible. I have 2 gis of ram so that should be ok. cheerio lululee
