Fantastic!! The helmet..aw that helmet!! Now I wonder whether we could get that to fit over Sanctum arts HazMat suit!!? I agree with Stefan_ the combination of your modelling skills, attention to detail, subject choice and your awesome texturing make all your stuff "must have" items. Now how about a set of surgeons tools to go with this lot!!

I don't usually buy props, but I'm a gonna get this set. The work looks superb. And I have to have the helmet.

jade_nyc ( ) posted Mon, 01 November 2004 at 2:39 PM

okay I've figured them all out except for the hydrant-looking object in the middle of #3 - can anybody tell me what it is? lol

Philywebrider ( ) posted Mon, 01 November 2004 at 3:02 PM

It is a fire hydrant for "old sea dogs"

Thank you all for the nice comments !

That wierd looking hydrant is actually a binnacle.
It's basically the compass box. The Kelvin spheres on each sides are meant to disperse interfering magnetic fields originating from the ship.

Inside, the compass is floating on a mixture of water and alcohol (so as not to freeze), and mounted on a gimble mechanism.

As for the 2 cannister-looking things, they're lanterns so the compass can be seen at night too.

(You can see the compass better in this pic)

I thought a binnacle was what they scrapped from the bottom of a boat. :OP
