Subject: Just got P5 question

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Mon, 01 November 2004 at 8:27 AM ยท edited Wed, 22 January 2025 at 11:04 AM

Okay, Just got P5 and I was wondering a few things. First off, is there anyway to make the tools vertical like you can in P4? I think it was option click on my mac but it doesn't seem to work in P5. Next, is there anyway to make the parameter dials more like P4 or at least stay the shape I want. (When I go into a room it reverts to default shape and position). How do you get rid of the dork that pops up in the scene when you start (It has been so long I have forgotten) .. Not sure if I like the set up of the libraries yet since I am having to constandtly go back and figure out what is what but I will give it a chance. Just need to clear off all the P5 content pretty much LOL Any reason to keep it if I will not be using Don, old animal etc?

Can't say specifically for a mac, GOM, but: Vertical tools: same as before. Keep trying on it -- I've got mine all vertical. Parameter Dials: Go to each room, set it up the way you want it to look, save prefs. I don't have the dials in the cloth or hair room because they annoy the piss out of me there, and if I need them, I can summon them. Don: Delete him from the scene, save prefs (Edit, General Preferences, document to preferred state and set preferred state, interface launch to previous state) As to why to keep Judy and Don: EJ and Farrah here in the store.

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

Looks like the vertical thing doesn't want to work on the Mac. Option is ALT and that is what I tried first. I will try again when I get home though. So a lot of saving prefs .. Got it. And I really don't like EJ's look and Farrah is nice but I would have to get a hole new set of clothing and then they wouldn't fit her anyway so I will pass :) The clothing that comes with P5 doesn't even have any morphs (Not that P5 people have that many anyway)

Don and judy should be kept to use with the face room. You can make a lot of new faces with it, it isn`t perfect but it is still very good. There is a bonus content drawer with poser 5 that has a version of judy and don with morphs, you can load them and then save them to a library.

re:"Looks like the vertical thing doesn't want to work on the Mac. Option is ALT and that is what I tried first. ..." To rotate Poser's Editing Tools (or Display Modes) ... Note that for: P4 - Alt + click on the TITLE, P5 - Alt + click on a TOOL, cheers, dr geep ;=]

I hesitate to get rid of any characters that come with Poser 5. Curious Labs suggests there may be a problem when installing a Service Pack. So I just ignore Don & Judy. You can customize your workspace. Just delete what you don't want, then go to Edit, General Preferences, and choose the options indicated in the screenshot.

I will try it again and make sure it is on a tool .. Just makes more sense to click on a title LOL From what I have read the face room is pretty useless since the textures are so lo res etc. Plus it would on;y be handy if I chopped heads off bodies ;) Not to be negative but there is no content for P5 and I can't make my own clothes and they also don't really have anything I need. I will look at the bonus content but I still don't think I will mess with Don and Judy at all.

Isn't the Mac equivalent to Alt, Command, the strange looking curly key?

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Well the keyboards I am looking at say alt on the top of the option key so that is what I am thinking. The command key is the swap for something else .. ctrl? command S to save etc ...

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 01 November 2004 at 12:18 PM

Try option and double click the title? It's CTRL+double click on my PC, it makes the tools "disappear" into the title, but when you click the title again they reappear, but aligned the other way.

The clothing that comes with P5 doesn't even have any morphs (Not that P5 people have that many anyway) Just a quick, teeny tiny explanation. The prinicple clothing in P5 is dynamic for the p5 folks. It doesn't require morphs as it actually will settle to fit them pretty much whatever their shape is. The conforming clothing accepts the figures morphs (and, as noted, those are available on the content CD) using morph manager rather easily. Note, also, that Farrah and EJ are still actually Judy, so they not only accept any V2 textures (Judy takes v2 textures), but they will also take any clothing available for Judy (and there is a LOT of clothing for her in P5 -- it just needs, um, proper textures for the scene, lol)

That's a nice one ynsaen, I didn't know Judy takes V2 textures, Thanx!

I just looked at the things for a few minutes ths morning but I only really saw conforming clothing and I know that doesn't work without morphs. When you say that they accept morphs from the figures, do they have the same number of vertices and all that? Sorry, new and I am going to be asking lots of dorky new questions. Just didn't figure they would have the same mesh as a base. Part of my problem with the P5 stuff is I don't really need a business man or a guy in an oxford most times and that is all the content I have seen really. Plus I am also new to it and partly stuck with preconceptions etc. Like clothes needing morphs that match to fit new morphs etc.

OddDitty ( ) posted Mon, 01 November 2004 at 12:53 PM

Well, the key to it is to use morph manager, GOM -- trying to insert them directly will sorta mess things up. As for being new, that's the point of this stuff, lol -- and why ynsaen often gets tagged as a P5 "nazi", when she's more along the lines of trying to encourage experimentation and exploration of the feature set in it. It's substatially different enough from P4 that it requires a rather drastic change in approach on the part of the user -- the things you would do in P4 suddenly don't quite work as well, and instead of getting frustrated and bitchin about it (which she does all too often already, lol) she's trying to encourage the folks who is smarter than her to pick it up and go forward with it. For the dynamic clothing, though, don't look in figures. Look in the props library. Dynamic clothing is a whole new ball of wax...

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Mon, 01 November 2004 at 1:06 PM

I just have Maconstructor which pretty much does what morph manager does but the vertices have to match. That is why I asked about that. It can move from one figure to another but can't force it to work with things that don't match (like tailor does etc) Ahh .. Would never have looked in the props for a figure .. Still don;t know if I will keep the figures but it is good to know where to look.
