Subject: Ok, you guys seriously need to make a new forum.

I am sad to say that your amazing website does not have a forum to match. I almost didn't post because I could not find the new topic 'button'. You people are AMAZING graphic artists. You should be able to throw something together. Together enough that you actuly have a button (and not a link) to make a new topic. I wish I had a softer way of saying it... but I do not. This forum needs to be updated. That is all. I do not wish to be rude or offencive. And I am sorry if anyone is offended my this.

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Sat, 06 November 2004 at 5:52 PM

They have had problems with button images instead of text links in the past. One big problem is that it slows down page-loading, which can be a real bummer for dial-ups.

True... true... But, most other websites have images. And I doubt that this is the only website or forum that Dail-up users go to.

" True... true... But, most other websites have images. And I doubt that this is the only website or forum that Dail-up users go to." we voted the graphic images off. even those with DSL/Cable/ISDN were complaining of the speed. for myself, sitting here on a 6mb cable line, the menu graphic took 30 secs or more to load at times. no. don't bring it back why would we need a graphic of a blue box with text when you can do a blue box with text with HTML much faster and almost 27 times smaller to download?

But, most other websites have images True, and I think maybe RR tried the 'keeping up with the Jones'' route by making links with images..it didnt bode well at all here, and it was voted out..for the reasons Mateo and Khai stated.

What do you want this to have a PHP clone board? I rarly frequent sites with the php clone board. I just cringe when I see one. I applaud rosity and 3d Commune for their origional forums.

Apparently you didn't have difficulty with the link, as I see you've posted, so why exactly do you need a button?

rowan_crisp ( ) posted Sun, 07 November 2004 at 1:45 AM

You get used to it, and faster than you'd think. No graphics - please. RC

The forum scripting/software is, uh, unique. It has its charm as well as its drawbacks. I don't think that adding graphics would make it more usable, though. As noted, the last time they put in graphical links it was pretty awful and the site speed slowed way down, to the point of making it actually unusable for some people. bonni

Those tiny links up at the topf the page used to be a graphic link thing, but it always loaded too slow, so everyone said get rid of it and so they did

I am thinking that the thread starter wants to have buttons that say post reply, start new thread like these, but I say NO, but it seems that we may get a php clone board before to long has anyone read the TIM Spotlight, they seem to be changing everything to PHP in the near future.

I thought that the actual programming behind Rendo was php and that they simply used an .ez extension. ?? My biggest problem with using the forums is when I click on a topic to read or post, that I have to go all back out to the main forum page again and then navigate back into the forum that I was reading. Or use the drop down menu on the side. But it would be nice if it just took back out to the forum that you were automatically after posting or had a navigation link for up one level. --Rebekah-- Owner of a PHP clone forum :)

It would be nice to add to this forum, things like you see in a clone ( btw you guys may have a clone forum, but you have actually done something to it to make it unique in my eyes anyway, it is not just out of the box) like the breadcrumb links at the top the ability to quote without copy and paste things like that but if they were to go the route that they hinted at in the TIM spotlight, then I think that we may be in for some changes here that would be a hinderance rather then a step forward.

You can use the back to {read new messages} link at the top of the page, or just use the back button if you haven't posted.

sixus1 ( ) posted Tue, 09 November 2004 at 11:08 AM

Hmmmmm...I never noticed that link before. :) That should make things easier. What about if you have posted ? I guess I will see in a second here. Thanks! --Rebekah--

I think you have just made the point of the original post. If a long time user of the site has 'Hmmmmm...I never noticed that link before. :) That should make things easier.' And you don't have to go the route of fancy graphic buttons, just making it more noticable would be an improvement.

Original and easy to navigate are two different things. I like the PHP bards because they seem to be more versatile and use friendly. I stayed away from Boards like this one because it is hard to see responses on topics I am participating outside of the e-mail notice.

I dont think it was primarily the graphics on that old link banner that slowed things down. I think it was something in they way they coded it. I know a little HTML and none of the CSS,etc. But I use extensive graphics on my sites, I'm on dial up, and my sites load pretty quick. But I DONT want more longload graphics here. That old menu took me on dial up about a minute at times to load completely. -B

"My biggest problem with using the forums is when I click on a topic to read or post, that I have to go all back out to the main forum page again and then navigate back into the forum that I was reading.." Open the link in a new window by pressing Shift as you click the link, then close the window when you're done ;)
