This is one third of the set. I will leave the rest as a suprise for when the set comes out. Everything you need to create your own Iraq scenes and stuff. And this set fits onto the helicopter landing pad and camouflage net freebies, and the set of nine military buildings I am releasing.

Um, forgot to add some things. This is still a WIP, so those aren't the final versions, the final versions will be a bit better. Also, if you want the sandbag walls to be different heights, you just move them through the floor, the front left and front right sandbags are the same prop, just at different heights.

Another picture textured in Vue.

That looks pretty cool! I'm excited. I assume it's coming to vanishing point?

Helgard ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 10:42 PM

Yep, but here as well. My stuff just takes ages to get here, lol. Any request for things to include? Included so far are 10 different sandbag sets, shown here. Barbed wire Tank traps A checkpoint boom A radio set A trench section A tunnel entrance A tunnel section Foxholes Maybe a tent or two I am not going to include the actual roads, there are many of those available for free already.

Oooops, forgot again, there will be some extra textures, so you can change the colours of the camouflage nets and tents, and the colour of the ground, from desert to stony to urban grey concrete rubble.

I don't know how the sandbags are modeled but it would be nice to have a single sandbag model so that the sandbags bunkers could be changed a little, or add a stray sandbag here and there so they aren't so clean and blocky. But other than that, it looks good to me!

Also including some Iraq style buildings for use in the background. These are early WIP's, so there is no detail on them yet, and this is just a temporary texture, the final texture will look more desert adobe style.

Some close up detail, but this will all change, depending on how much coffee I can drink.

Absolutely on the stray sandbags. I haven't seen a single picture of any army camp, anywhere in the 20th century, that didn't have a bunch of random crap lying around. From my random memories of three muddy years in peacetime army a couple things that jump out are the small tents, expedient hooches, ponchos, random bits of cord and stakes everywhere, falling-apart walls of sandbags with -- inevitably -- one sandbag lying on the ground busted open and leaking sand.

OK, a loose sandbag or two will be included, and some other junk to throw arounf the scene. I am not going to include ammo crates and things like that, because that will just push the size of the download through the roof. The sandbag sets and these buildings are only about one third of the entire set, so it is quite large already.

Anyway, the three buildings are redone from scratch, look more realistic now, and they are mapped better.

A close up. I am not going to put up many more renders, because that will spoil the big suprise for what the final part will include.

Yeah there are plenty of ammo crates and other things like that available for free here and other places, but a matching sandbag would be nice. This set is looking very good! It will be perfect for a render I'm working on. Hope to see it in the store soon!

OK, I promise this is the last one before the set is released. This is the tunnel section. The well hides the one entrance, the other one is covered by a plank. The side can slide to reveal the tunnel. The well will also be a seprate prop to use in the village or elsewhere. These are still rough textures, better textures I hope on the final thing. I have finished the razorwire, booms, single sandbag, Dragon's Teeth (tank traps, for those who don't know), etc. Just have to finish off the tents, and then it will be released. And I will keep the big part of the set as a suprise till the release day.

First Question. Hopefully by Friday at Vanishing Point, and here whenever it passes testing. Suggestions: 1) Ooops, I have finished the product and I'm busy packaging it. I'll make landmines as a freebie later on then. 2) Well, there is the third part you haven't seen yet. Lol, not quite Afghanistan. 3) Maybe in a freebie pack later. 4) Um.... fire? How, lol. 5) Um, like i said, product is finished and busy packaging. Maybe in a future product.

for the flames maybe some thing like this few different patches and shorter. the flames were with the witch burning set found here in the freebee section.

This is an extract from the readme for the model: "Even though the figure is very large, it uses a unique mapping system, almost like tiling, to save on texture use. Even though the entire model is about 3000 times bigger than Victoria 3, it uses roughly 20 000 by 20 000 pixels of texture, compared to a Hi-Res Victoria 3, that uses about 14 000 by 14 000." I use a unique UV Mapping system, and I would have to write a tutorial to explain it to you. Everything is UV Mapped though, and it would be easier just to paint over the textures supplied than to try and figure out my system. PS The download has over 150 files in it already, so I don't think I could include seperate UV Maps anyway. PPS I usually add flames, etc, in After Effects. So I don't think I will be including flames. If you go to Vanishing Point, and get the Explosion Pack freebie I made, that may be of use. PPPS. This is my texture map, lol.

i just had some random ideas for later project, i made a pic i thought the sniper stuff would be easy like the camo sniper netting Ans a field radio and a painter lazer to paint targets 4 air support. The wws Medic or presant day medic uniform. Terrorist alfit. A regular vietnam type field radio. and the pic has some other info and idea maybe you might find easy and useful to make . :) i have to much time on my hands these days lol

Helgard ( ) posted Sun, 21 November 2004 at 6:54 PM

OK, my next product after this is a command centre. That has some radios in it. There is also a small basic radio in this set. My next freebie pack will include landmines, telephone poles and a lookout/gaurd tower, and a few other small things. The next product after that is a military medical facility, and that will have stretchers and medical kits. The product after that is Vietnam based, and will include among the thirty props an inflatable dingy. I am not ready to release any clothing yet, because I am making my own Poser figures, and all the clothing I make will be made for them. Remember if you make a sniper suit, make a cover for the rifle. In your pic above there is a sniper lying under a camouflage suit thingy, but his rifle is not camouflaged. It looks very unrealistic. I had some problems uploading the Military Environment file, but it should be up in a few hours now.
