Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 09 1:04 pm)
Well, Cedega is based on Wine so it's no surprise. I have Windows XP so I'm not that desperate to get Poser working under Linux. But it would be so cool if it would work, then I'd be very close to getting rid of Windows. DAZ Studio runs great on Linux, but it cannot really replace Poser. Not by a long shot.
Never thought to try the old WineX/Cedega thingy... that's pretty cool. D|S isn't nearly as versatile as Poser, but it gets the job done much easier, IIRC. Bah - I asked Weinberg of the old Curious Labs if he would considering porting it, got a marketing anwer that basically said "no" - I wonder if the Shade guys would consider it? /P
I agree that D|S does some things better than Poser, but I'm doing animation, playing with displacement mapped low-res models, writing Python scripts etc. That's why the current version of D|S with no plugins is unusable to me. Curious Labs wouldn't even have to port Poser for Linux, they'd just have to remake the gui using standard Windows controls. I think it would be good for the Windows users as well.

This is what I got when I tried to run Poser 5 SR4 in Linux (SuSe 9.1, switched only recently from Mandrake 10.0). I play Windows games with an emulator called Cedega so I thought I'd try Poser. I know, it doesn't look good and it's pretty much unusable. But the reason I got my hopes up is that the only thing that doesn't seem to be working is the user interface. Rendering speed is great, the document window is very responsive, and the parameter dials work as expected. So, does anyone else have any experience of using P5 in Linux? I know that VMware and Win4Lin may work but that's not what I'm looking for.
