Today I uploaded Transport One and the Landing Pad to DAZ. I have no idea how long it will be before you see them in the store there, but at least I've finished my bit now :-) Next stop: Hyperion Bar. I know a lot of people have been waiting for that one. I have the full mesh now, so I can get stuck into it. It should be a faster product than the last two. Anyhow, here's one of the promos from Transport One.

It looks beautiful. Was it rendered in Vue ?

Ajax ( ) posted Mon, 15 November 2004 at 5:40 AM

Nope. All of these are rendered in Poser 5. I've done minor contrast and brightness adjustment in photoshop, but no other postwork.

BTW, those flames you see coming out of the back of the transport are a morphing prop. The Poser 5 version has animated textures.

These all look amazing Ajax_ looking forward to seeing these in the store. Am I right that the transport has a 'pristine' and a weathered texture set?

Why is this alien smiling? Because she's reading the ads in the landing bridge!

Ajax ( ) posted Mon, 15 November 2004 at 2:34 PM

Noggin, That's right, there is a pristine set of textures and a battered set of textures for the transport. There are also some P5 only military texture schemes included. Carolly, I'm impressed you can read that from that blurry little render. I had a lot of fun doing the ads :-) Pricing....We have these set up so that during the introductory sale they'll be just under $20 each.

Well, I find great amusement in reading the book titles in wizard libraries or the runes around goblets and shields in fantasy art... so, if it looks like writing, I'll try to decipher it. ;) It's those details which make something special. Carolly the Curious

Philywebrider ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2004 at 4:51 AM

I'm a little confused, could you show just what is included with the landing pad? Is it just the pad and bridge area or is the wall/building side where the bridge attaches included?

Ajax ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2004 at 5:13 AM

file_141541.jpg

Sure Phily. Everything you see in this image is included. This is one of the alternative texture sets that comes with the pack. The building facade behind the pad is removable if you want to attach the pad to some other building. The wall behind the bridge is also removable and so is the supporting structure, the bridge itself, the ad signs and the travelator.

Daz hasn't posted it yet. I'm waiting credit card in hand, ready and waiting to buy! :O) BTW I picked up your Drone Trooper and the accessary pacs.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2004 at 5:38 AM

DAZ is having a sale, I hope they don't wait until the sale is over before posting your items. :O(

compiler ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2004 at 6:17 AM

Since you're doing it in Poser5, could you consider making a texture with only the ground texture, with the "hospital" texture added on it by means of a blender node ? Thus, it would allow for easy modification of the hospital texture (making a french text is what I have in mind) without having to build a whole new texture from scratch. Or, at least, could you send a PSD file of these textures to all your buyers ?

Ajax ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2004 at 6:26 AM

Phily, It was only just uploaded on Sunday night and DAZ has a long testing and preparation process, so I wouldn't expect it any time soon. They have to do DAZ Studio conversions, make an installer program and do their own testing process to make sure incoming products are up to their standards. I'd be very, very surprised if it's up this week. Next week maybe....but probably not. This is the first time I've worked with DAZ so I'm not sure what will be sticking points for them. They may not like all the Poser 5 support I've included, or they may think some of the ads in the bridge aren't family friendly enough. I just don't know. If they ask me to change stuff, that will slow the whole process down. (For those of you who like your P5 support and your dark future advertising, don't worry - if I have to change it, the bits I remove will go up as freebies somewhere else). Also, the current DAZ sale only applies to things that are more than a few months old, so it certainly won't apply to things that aren't even in the store yet. Enjoy the sale while you can, I say. I'm debating whether to pick up Mimic 3, myself. Can't quite make up my mind but I know if I don't get it I'll probably never have another shot at getting it this cheap :-| Compiler, No need for me to consider it - I did it already :-) The method I used actually works in both P4 and P5. The ground and the rim of the landing pad are double layered, with the decals applied to the outer layer using a transparency map. This make is really easy to change the text, the symbols etc. The only place you'll have trouble is the "Authorised Personell Only" sign above the portal doors. That one is painted direct on the texture, but it won't be hard for you to paint over it. If you do wind up wanting to make an add-on texture set, contact me and I'll see what I can do about psd files. They're huge, but I might be able flatten a few layers to get the size down and send you some critical parts.

compiler ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2004 at 12:08 PM

I think the double layered thing is a good approach for P4 people. In P5 it can be done much more easily. Since I have worked in an emergency service for some years as a dispatch and field GP, I really enjoy the set you've made. It looks familiar, yet alien. I had the same impression in Venice when I saw that the emergency entrance in the hospital was for boats (which makes sense there). Looking forward to this piece of master work.

Ajax ( ) posted Tue, 16 November 2004 at 3:15 PM

This approach also works for people that want to render in Vue or Bryce etc, which is important - especially with things that can be used in large outdoor scenes. I'd really like to make a few products that are just for P5 and hang P4 and all the other programs, but Moe's models deserve the widest audience possible, so when I start making the P5 only stuff they'll be things that are purely my own.

Seems both models are already in the Daz store! That was fast...they don't show up if you order the listings newest first though...it only shows up if I order the listings by popularity...maybe it's a mistake?

I already bought it,lol. Will have to wait til after work to play, though;( I wasn't expecting it until next week. It's good to be suprised.

Ajax ( ) posted Wed, 17 November 2004 at 5:08 AM

Thanks Vulcanis. We appreciate your business, but I have no idea what's going on. I've just seen the DAZ newsletter and it includes both products, but I've also been asked to check them over before release. The DAZ site has been playing up and I haven't been able to download the installers yet to see what they look like. I guess uploading just after the recent site makeover was a bad idea.

"I guess uploading just after the recent site makeover was a bad idea." Not to me! I didn't want to wait once I saw your latest picks; I've got 'em, and so far, they're perfect. Thanks very much for great add-ons for Dystopia... now quit sitting around and get the bar finished. ;-) -- Walt Sterdan, Freelance

Ajax ( ) posted Wed, 17 November 2004 at 3:29 PM

Thanks guys. I've looked over the installers briefly and the only problem I can see is that they've added a note to the Transport One readme telling P4 users to convert a bunch of the textures to bum format. There's no reason to do that and it will just eat up your hard drive space for nothing, so if you're a P4 user then ignore that bit of the readme.
