Subject: Jam-ups while rendering

I am making a new Poser model of a big mechanical device (a grab-dredger-submarine, hull length about 100 feet and the grab-arm can reach about 150 feet when unfolded). When I ctrl-R render a scene including it, the "progess of rendering" box gets through the first stages as usual, then displays "rendering shadow map for light 2", then the thin white box goes all black from left to right as usual - then the render jams, and clicking the "stop" button doesn't work, and I must ctrl-alt-del to stop Poser. (I have Poser 4.0.2). What might cause this? Is this a known bug with rendering big models?

Forward this thread to Curious Labs if you want to.

This model's CR2 file includes several extra Weld commands that I text-edited in like Bloodsong advised in her tutorial about "illegitimate children".

It may be a memory problem. Try turning off shadow casting in the render options, that saves a ton of memory.

I've often had the same problem. I'm running the latest and greatest Poser version purchased form C. Labs. I'm also running with 512 MB Ram!! I do know that with the more powerful PC's, I have a tendency to run with huge texture maps, which seams to be my problem. soccer coach
