Subject: Rendo oddity today

Every time I post in Rendo while simultaneously
downloading something from another site,
the download is stopped by a "Reset By Peer"
error message. This is happening
consistently today; never saw it before. It's not just a general browser-itchiness; only happens when I write something in a R'osity forum.

Most of the info I see on that msg seems to refer to the host you're downloading from timing out or resetting the connection for some other reason. Does it happen when downloading from different sites? I'm on dialup and I know that for some reason, posting here takes longer and seems to eat up bandwidth more than just anywhere else on the web. Probably 3/4 of the time, the post doesn't go through and I get the forum list screen. I always have to remember to copy the text, otherwise when that happens and I go back to resubmit, it's lost of course. I haven't kept track but it doesn't seem to be related to the time of day or number of people logged in but it's a major annoyance.

the download is stopped by a "Reset By Peer"<: The prob is in fact not caused by Rendo but by the server(s) you're downloading from. If the up-/download level there is set at a minimumlevel and your conection is not that wide, the posting at Rendo might absorb so much of the availlable bandwith that there's not enough left for the up-/download and this is terminated by the Peer (the up-/download server.

That makes sense, but doesn't really explain why I never saw it before.... I often have something DL'ing while I look elsewhere, and my favorite sites are pretty constant. It could be that one of those sites has changed its own settings, though.

"It could be that one of those sites has changed its own settings, though." Yeah that or maybe some temporary routing/congegtion problem between you and them. Given the complexity of the internet and then with various a--holes launching attacks all the time, I'm surprised it works at all. We've come to take it's relative reliability for granted.
