ah! thanks, the ambient value worked.. however the fake flame (it's 2 transparent flat squares in a cross shape with a texture) gives off an odd shadow still, the flat squares throw a shadow unless I place the light exactly above them.. then I don't get much of a surrounding light from the "flame" of course.. is there any other option or should I simply add a second light to simulate the flame's light? as for the shadow cams, where do I find that option?

I have a problem with shadow casting. Shadows do appear in my scenes, however they are usually way off.. i.e. I have a character kneeling on a stone floor, the light comes from the left, the ground shadow starts about 1ft to her right, no shadow between her legs on the floor, no shadows on her body from her own body parts (such as her arm, hand on thigh, etc). the character is touching the prop used as ground, not sinking into it, not hovering above it. also, semi-related.. I have the torch, chandalier etc from the medieval promenade kit, they use a semi-transparent "fake flame", which lights up nicely in the premade scenes.. but never in mine. I tried setting up a light above them like in the premade scenes, but they simply won't light up.. is there some option I missed, or some change to the material of the prop?
