Let me add to msg's answer. If you turn off smooth polygons in the render settings it will turn this feature off for the whole scene. If you select the bass object and turn off smooth polygon in the properties tab for the object, all the other objects will still render smooth (as long as the option is ON in the render settings).
The young couple were honeymooning in Africa: the views were magnificent, and they watched a herd of wildebeeste moving into the sunset. It was perfect, and had the perfect accompaniment; a group of drummers playing somewhere just out of sight. In the morning, the drums were still playing. It was now beginning to lose its attraction. By the following evening, the drums had not slowed down or missed a beat. Exasperated, they called the manager. "Can't you make the drums stop?", they begged him, "it's getting a bit wearing." "The drums must not stop. The alternative is too terrible to comtemplate." "Why? Why must the drums go on? I mean sleep isn't an issue at the moment, if you know what I mean, but all the same..." "If the drums stop, the bass player will do a solo." :D EB - once a bass player...
Hey, as an ex-bass player myself, I resemble those remarks!
Actually, my wife (French Horn player)and I have that argument all the time - about how basses are the most versatile instrument, how you need them with every single genre but marching band, how her favorite musician (Sting) doesn't play a French Horn.....
