FREEBIE WOW!! I was getting my loot together to buy it, every since I saw it in the preview area

So now you've got extra to spend on one of the bundles. Clever Daz! Buy her some nice lacy folderols or whatever, since it's obvious neither Vicky's nor GIRL's will fit ;-)

Free human figures. What a great concept. :) --Rebekah-- Ahh..I couldn't resist ;p

I think I broke it. ;) Now I'm unhappy. Just purchased the Pro bundle and Daz appears to have gone bye-bye right in the middle of a 27MB download (with 11 more to go). No response from the site. You might want to wait a little while...

I'm getting the starter bundle right now with no prob. Real good speed too.

sixus1 ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 12:53 AM

I downloaded it too. It was a little slow, but didn't time out. She looks a lot like Anime Doll. --Rebekah--

Berserga ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 12:56 AM · edited Wed, 24 November 2004 at 12:57 AM

Yeah, but having a real fully functioning mouth with teeth and tounge is gonna make her SOOOOO much more useful for animation.

I think we all Owe Maya a big thanks. If he hadn't had so much success with Anime doll I don't think Daz would have ever made an authentic anime model. And I will continue to use animedoll and F202, as they are both great. ^_^

I tell yuh. I'm not big into Anime but this is a really nice figure. There is also a lot of really nice add-ons too. This figure should do well.

I'm being asked for credit card details, even though it is free! Is this correct?

Her "realistic" body is very nice too.

Natolii ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 7:21 AM

Prikshatk, It is free... DAZ's options are just a P.I.T.A. Make sure you don't have "Burn this order To CD" checked off. Also, you can check off Paypal as an option, but since the final cost is $0.00, you won't have to worry. I just got her about 2 hours ago. =P

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 7:38 AM

Vicky's and Girl's stuff may not fit, but Stephanie Petite's does! Aiko comes with a A3 to SP CR2, so you can use SP's clothing on her. And she takes unimesh textures, too.

It's a nice figure, and I'm happy to have her, but not being much into toons, I probably won't buy anything for her. I kind of wish some of the A3 clothes were available for Steph or Vicky; they're really cute!

Natolii ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 7:58 AM

Dodger does have a conversion tutorial out there and I think MarkDC's products (Which you can find here) should work as well. But the News about the Aiko 2 to SP sounds great. I have stuff for SP I can use to get her going.

Trust me on this.

rowan_crisp ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 10:38 AM

I'm not getting it. I got pissed off with Daz's last "free offer" that wouldn't let me remove things once I had hit order, that wouldn't accept my credit card number, and the customer service that ignored my email. No more Daz for a while for me, 'til my temper gets smoothed back down. RC Ticked.

Byrdie ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 10:39 AM

Of course there's gonna be more stuff, jim, she's a SHE. Now if they'd do a male version -- or even a morph pack -- but no. No plans for an anime guy doll because ::horrible off-key singing:: "it's a B**bie world!" ;-) Nice to know SP things'll work with her, though. I must go make another raid on the freebies ...

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 10:42 AM

Byrdie, there's always the possibility of a "he-female" version. They did it with V3. ;)

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for. Way I see it, the more versatile a figure is, the more likely I am to use it. Especially with my bank account just about empty, thanks to the latest big Daz & RDNA sales.

Byrdie ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 11:37 AM

People have had that problem before with other freebies that needed to go thru the checkout before you could download them. As I recall, since there's no actual charge, you don't need to give real credit card information, just something to fill in the blanks. But they can tell you more about that at Daz.

logansfury ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 12:24 PM

Free is always wonderful, so forgive me for sounding ungrateful, but what the heck happened to the one click freebie download process?? That was a LOT of freakin clicking past CC pages and whatnot to get an E-download only freebie. More urgently, where is the Free Vault? I didnt get everything I wanted from outta there :/

wdupre ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 12:29 PM

Pakled just click paypal you don't actually need a paypal account to get the free figure.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 12:53 PM

Though she doesn't quite have the saucy look of the original... hrm. May have to fix that. But then, first I sell my old mac for a LOT more than I expected. Then I finally scrape up the cash for a dual G5 Mac, and find one on e-bay for way less than it would cost brand new. Now this... ...man, I oughta buy a friggin' lottery ticket the way this week is going for me :0 /P

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 2:44 PM

So, how big is the download. Since the revamp of the site there's been a lot of items, including this one, with a size of "none". It is as if they expect everyone to be on broadband.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 2:48 PM

8MB for the Windows version

Aeneas ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 2:53 PM

My guess is that the download of free items isn't anonymous anymore when you have to pass your data. I downloaded it (some 8MB) and receinved an e-mail from them. So my download is stored in their database. Personally, I don't understand the enthusiasm. I won't even install it in a runtime, let alone spend money on add-ons. Can't help it, but I have a feeling their sun is past mid day...

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 3:30 PM

I also think that this keeps their 'database' more tidy. The product is still 'for sale' and part of the product database proper, but with a cost of $0.00. This way it still shows in the regular product pages and, woefully, is still handled using the same 'shopping cart' and 'checkout' process. As you say, no more anonymous downloads. Wow, Penguinisto, buy a ticket for me while you're at it! :=)

Well, here's a quick sample. All from the free base package except for the gun (Questor's Sci-Fi set in the DAZ free vault) and the texture on the suit (One of Mapp's).

Looks good, but note the hip joint. There's something that looks not wuite right about the alignment, as if the hip socket were too low on the pelvis.

digital-depictions ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 5:38 PM

Forgive me but I thought I had called into Renderosity and not a DAZ satelite site.

Eternl_Knight ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 5:53 PM

I think the thing to remember is that this is not guaranteed to be free for long. Which is probably why they make you go through their store for it. Either their planning on removing it's free status when they've sufficiently saturated the market against the free MayaDoll and low-cost AnimeDoll figures OR they're doing the age-old movie publisher's trick of "coming only to theatres" to create a false sense of urgency. Either one feels like "dirty" business tricks... That said, it does look good. The eyes differentiate it from AnimeDoll and allow for more 'animatable' look; whereas I have found AnimeDoll to look better for the classic manga-like still images. The hips do bend somewhat strange (as has been mentioned above) - which they're unlikely to change now that they've created & sold alot of clothing based on the JP's. All in all, if DAZ were to make this figure "truly" free, I would be all for it. However, I was burned by their Sara vs Sara2 fiasco and have trouble trusting their actions now...

Stormrage ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 10:47 PM

I think why they have you use the store download is because they may plan for it to go to a regular price in the future, also by having it on your history by going through the checkout process, they can make sure you are notified of updates and such. Also if you have to get a history burn, Aiko will be included in that instead of you having to redownload it from the freebie area, or losing it when/if it goes to a pay for price. Now not saying this is DAZ's words, just my opinion and I know from my perspective I'd rather have it on my history :)

Byrdie ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 10:55 PM

I just checked and it's only free for a limited time. December 31, if I'm not mistaken, is when it goes to regular price, around 30 bucks, give or take a couple pennies. And it seems only the complete Aiko 3 has the Stephanie cr2 option to share clothes, etc. Still, this is one of the best weekly freebies they've had in quite awhile, so naturally it found its way into my cart.

Eternl_Knight ( ) posted Wed, 24 November 2004 at 11:15 PM

Aaahhh... and they all said I was paranoid ;) That and I have heard complaints that you still have to buy the "complete" version to get their expressions pack and so on to work. As such it's not so much a "free Aiko" but a "preview Aiko" before you buy the real deal. Still, at the very least - it allows merchants to create clothes for Aiko without having to purchase the figure first. That, in my opinion, is a good thing 'almost' guaranteed to garner merchant support for the girl. Smart move all things considered. Don't take it that I'm a DAZ-hater. I think they've got alot of good content. However, as the true-born cynic that I am (and given past experience) - I try to always be aware of the hook hidden in that free worm ;)

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 25 November 2004 at 12:03 AM

They said it might stay free permanently...if it's popular. They want us to tell all our friends to go download her.

A lot of SP's stuff fits her pretty well, with some scaling. And of course, there's always dynamic clothes. (This is svdl's free dynamic skirt and top for V3.)

One odd thing: she's got separate material zones for her shin, knee, and thigh, instead of just "skinleg." So MAT files made for the other unimesh characters don't work on her legs. They work for the rest of her, but you have to apply the textures to her legs manually.

I can just imagine a catfight scene between Original Aiko and Aiko 3, with your Clown Dude (what's his name, anyway?) looking on with a combination of horror, amusement, and fascination... ;-)

I am so in love! She is great. Her 'realistic' face is lovely too. I have to admit that when I did the maths I had to get the Professional packsge (does that make me a professional artist now? snigger ) Gotta go, got piccys to render.....

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Thu, 25 November 2004 at 10:29 AM

That's why I did the Pro bundle - I did the math and saved a bundle ;) (the PC discount was the convincing factor).

A bit to far to one side of my current interests, but I'd agree that the bundle looks the way to go. Trouble is, the Aiko Base feels incomplete, rather than limited. OK for free distribution, but it would feel like a bit of a deception at the non-sale price -- all that money for such a limited figure.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 25 November 2004 at 10:46 AM

I wonder if they ever really planned to sell Aiko Base at all. It's not like they haven't tried giving away free figures before.

Maybe they did the "temporary" thing, to avoid what happened with Sara. They didn't want to distribute her any more, but people demanded it. Even though I'm sure they would rather we use the Girl.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 25 November 2004 at 11:32 AM

"I can just imagine a catfight scene..." My dearest Bonni, as soon as I get the G5 all set up, I think I have an idea for the first render on it... (evil grin). /p
