why doesnt ps6 want to read .bmp files I get an error saying the programme cannot parse the file ,does it need a laxative?Never had this problem with 5 or 5.5

the error its in your file not in photoshop try another software to open our file and then export or save as tif, jpg 100% or tif sometimes help....

yea the files open in paintshop pro , (they were made in raydream)and microsoft paintand painter6 thats why I thought it had to be a problem with photoshop.Its not a big problem as I usually save as a.psd or.jpg ,just odd.

Try reinstalling Photoshop 6.
