Bored, I thought I'd play around with a future scene. Moebius' Dystopia and the DAZ skycar & vikki.

Thanks! The headlight beams are just a couple of cones smooshed to fit the headlights with a white diffuse color, fuzzy render and about 50% transparency. Likewise with the exhaust, just different colors (or in your case, colours). I can't tell you how long I futzed with visible lights... I'm not happy with the lights on the other flyers, tho'. Hmmm.

There are other flyers??? OOps, yes there are. Sorry, initially I thought that the one in the centre was some sort of turning indicator on the main vehicle, and completely missed the one to bottom right. personally, I don't think this scene needs other flyers. It's already very busy. Also whilst the lights on the main vehicle work quite well for the scene, the ones on the others should probably be deleted altogether. Light just doesn't work that way. It starts bright and fades off rapidly (inverse square rule). And it only shows up if it hits something. That something could be a solid object (eg a building), or it could be dust/smoke in the atmosphere (causing scattering). But the atmosphere you have here looks very clear, so no lights should cast beams at all. (After all, none of the office windows are..) OTOH, on the main vehicle, the "headlamp" could be MUCH brighter, and the area around if darkened. Try standing in a street at night and watching the headlights of on-coming cars to see the effect I mean.. Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to be sarcastic; I like the image, and that effect could be very useful. But personally, I don't think it fits here... I'm just trying to be helpful and could probably be wrong.. Cheers, Diolma

I agree with the argument against the other flyers and esp. their lights, I just thought it odd that in a huge city there'd be only one vehicle visible. As for the lights on the main vehicle, I was going for a smoggy/foggy atmosphere that would be illuminated by the beams. Unfortunately, Bryce doesn't produce "glare" too well, so the headlights themselves don't stand out too well. The material for them is at max ambience trying to achieve that illuminated look. Oh well. I'll keep at it when I have some free time. Fun, tho. I really like Moebius' city.

Just a suggestion (haven't tried to so...) Might a darker texture (fading to the actual texture) around the headlights help the effect? It'd take some work, but... Cheers, Diolma

You mean reducing the amount of difuse? Say, like 75%, or are you thinking elsewhere? I could change the overall ambience (currently 10.1) of everything but the headlamps. That might make 'em brighter... Keep those thoughts and opinions coming!!!

I think a flying car would have more runnng lights

What I was actually thinking of was altering the texture map (if there is one) for the car. Darken the area around the h/lights (to nearly black) but feather out to the real colour... Of course, if you're not using a texture map, then that idea goes out of the window.... Cheers, Diolma

Hmmm. That's a thought. The texture map is from Stonemason at DAZ. I'll fire up Photoshop and play a little...
