The Weapon. This is the primary weapon of a starship that features in some novels I'm writing. One of a pair, it is slung on outriggers beneath the ship. Obviously, it is reminiscent of star-trek engines, but I'm tryig to get away from the squeaky-clean ST look for something a bit more work-a-day. I'd appreciate any suggestions or indeed samples that could be used to replaced the green on the main body. I want to thank those who were discussing 'greebles' a while back. They realy inpsired me to carry on with this long-term project. The Weapon is shown in ignition mode, the blue plasma indicates that it is about to be fired. There's nothing to show scale here, but as written, it is about 1 mile in length and capable of destoying a planet or destabilizing a small sun. C&Cs welcome. Thanks for looking.

Alright, sci-fi nerd to the rescue, let me check my archives. Ok, here's one I just cooked up, I mixed a hull plate texture I downloaded from somewhere a long time ago with some mild scorch marks and a moderate bump map. The thing is, it sometimes makes the model look somewhat unsmooth; as you can see the four quadrants of the texture even though it is applied to a flat plane (plain?). Maybe this gave you some ideas.

Don't know if this is what you're looking for Chris. It's the result of a texture experiment I came up with while fooling around with greeebles(and nurnies). It's a 1024X1024 texture and has a matching bump map. I haven't used it on anything yet so you could be first.

Oh, BTW, I really like your weapons pods! Glad to hear about the writing endeavor too.

Bryster - that's awesome! I love how the plasma turned out, and the greebles down the side.

Danamo: The long, thin greeble running down the long axis is yours, I just copied it off the thread. I played about with it - just a bit ;-) (PS - don't worry, I'll give you a cred on the finished artcle.) The square one at the near end is my own. Thanks for the c&cs.
