Subject: Poser 5 question.....

I just finally decided to purchase Poser 5. I'm wondering if it will recognize all my Poser 4 files, or will I have to move them all into Poser 5 manually? I have a ton of poser 4 stuff! :/ I'm suppose to get it tomorrow.

It will recognize your P4 runtime. P5 supports multiple runtimes, so you just have to add the P4 runtime to the library.

If you have V3, M3, or any other generation 3 DAZ figures, you'll have to move a few files if the figures aren't installed in P5's main runtime, but other than that, the transition should be smooth and sweatless.

Eventually I decided to move all my P4 files over into P5 because, thought P5 will recognize them, it often takes a long time to do so and causes enormous delays. It could be because I just had so much stuff in my P4 folders, though I dont know for certain. I recommend moving your files over. You could take the opportunity to clean up your Runtime and get rid of worthless items, extra images, extra RSRs (or PNGs), and all of that. Yes, it will take you forever to do - but it will be worth it IMO. Best of luck! --Invidia

Once you get familiar with Poser 5, you will likely never see a need to go back to Poser 4. Consider just reinstalling the stuff you use the most into Poser 5, then give it a go. Eventually you might agree with me, that it's not worth using the Poser 4 Runtime.

it took me two days to clean up my main runtime - and now i have four runtimes, i cant tell you how much easier it is now to find stuff. its well worth the effort and meanwhile you get rid of stuff you probably thought you'd use but didnt.... like me.

It's a never-ending struggle to keep up with things. I have stuff that has sat on this hard drive for 2 years, and never been used. Heck, I forget what I have. That's why I've decided to make new DVD's of all my stuff. Then I use a CD catalog program to keep track.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'll be installing it later today. I'm looking forward to giving it a try. It took me a long time to decide to get it. There are so many mixed opinions on P5 out there! haha Thanks again for helping this newcomer to renderosity out.

How do I make more than one runtime? I am new to poser and I have Poser 5.

It's pretty simple, in a basic way. 1.) Create a new folder with the name of your Runtime. For instance, Mike 3. Install your stuff into that Runtime. 2.) Click on your libraries folders till you get to the point where you see the Red Dot. 3.) Click the Plus sign for Add new Runtime. 4.) Point to your new folder. 5.) When you want to be sure that Runtime is working, double-click on it.
