First of all I want to thank all of you who took some time to help me. I wanted to ask you what are my top 5 Photos I posed here ? (I have my own favourits but I need your oppnion.) It would be great if you could look through my gallery ( link below) and post the names of the best 5 Photos. I have now 8 favourits but I need your help. Because my selection isn't perhaps the best. So thx again for helping me ! Chris

Well, you caught me on a good day - I've had a few! But keep in mind that if you ask one person to judge the same contest over the course of three days, he will choose a different winner each day! My favorites (and these ARE in order) are: #1: The Alps III - the composition is perfect, the lighting exquisite, right place at the right time (and for nature photographers, that's a BIG plus!). This shot looks like a painting - like someone made the scene look the way he wanted it to look - being that this is a photo...the mood and atmosphere is overwhelming! #2: Farmhouse View I - The swirl of the clouds surrounding the mountain is fantastic - and the composition, a sliver of the foreground to base the view from, is ideal! No part of the frame is wasted - every section contributes to the feel and mood of the place! #3: Die Trauben - Love the lighting! And thank God the subject wasn't placed dead center in the frame!! I simply love the composition here, and technically, this shot is perfect! #4: USA III - This shot just hit me - talk about a "sellable image" This shot has the ability to illustrate so many meanings - "Storm on the horizon", "crops failing", etc. - the possibilities are endless. This is a wonderful human nature/world crisis illustration! #5: The Frozen Ducks - I like this shot because it's clean - no wondering what the subject is - in one shot, you've captured cleanly the basic elements of flight, and compositionally left the subject(s) room to move. Why did I not select the same images as others? (Here's where the beer kicks in!) 1: You will NEVER get any group to agree upon "what is the best image I've shot" - it's simply impossible. You need to shoot for YOU - others be damned! If YOU think it;s good - if the shot is everything you wanted to convey, then it's a great shot - regardless if anyone else likes it or not! 2: My definition of a "great photograph" , hopefully, differs greatly from everyone else who has responded to this post. There are a few "photographic rules" - which are no more than guidelines set to be broken by those with an alternate vision - those who persist transcend from "oddball" to "trendsetter". Some other selected: Autumn I: Beautiful colors and perfect exposure - but I can't really tell what it is that you're taking a picture of....the house? The lake? The fall foliage? All three is a bit too much - my eye doesn't know where to concentrate or even start. Rainbow: Nice shot - but (and this is strictly my own rule for myself), I've always looked at rainbow shots as shots that could hold their own, subject and composition, by themselves without the rainbow. The bow comes in as an extra. Golden Gate Bridge: This shot is excellent - only problem is I've seen this shot a few hundred times. To pull off a shot of a landmark such as this, you really need a unique lighting situation - a drastically unique lighting situation. Der Weg: A bit grainy and soft for my taste - maybe the sky contributes to the feel, but to me - it's half a frame of dull sky. I dunno - maybe a drastic vertical with very little sky and a lot more road that she has already travelled...? Anywho - take what I write with a BIG grain of salt (after all, I'm drinking!). You have several others in your gallery that made it difficult to decide - but I wanted to play by the rules.......best 5! Wolf
