THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: ON topic... Renderosity the War Zone

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 02 December 2004 at 11:16 PM ยท edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 3:08 AM

I know that everyone's sick of people using 'Rosity as a battleground for their own opinions and such, and nobody really likes to sit around and have to deal with text-based violence. So, I'm proposing a few things to the moderators : 1. Give us, the users, the ability to delete comments we find offensive or damaging from our gallery images. 2. Also, give the users the ability to "Ignore" other users, so that they cannot comment on our images nor send us messages. In the last day, I've had over a dozen rude and mean messages (IM's) and a couple of image comments that were meant only as insults. At this point, I really don't give a shit if Renderosity wants to ban me from using their site, because I'm not going to sit back and let other people bash my artwork for no other reason than petty revenge. I'm angry that people can get away with this, and nobody does anything about it. I have expressed my anger to the people I'm talking about, using words that I don't normally use in real life outside the bedroom, and I don't think I'm going to calm down about it until something is done. So, if people are going to use Renderosity like a third-rate Yahoo chatroom, we need third-rate chatroom defenses, such as Ignore and Delete. I really with Agent Smith were here, he would be able to sort this mess out. My only other alternative is to turn off comments entirely, and simply delete all the IM's coming to me... Thank you for allowing me the freedom to vent. If I have offended anyone, I am sincerely happy about it at this point.

I agree with you 100%. When I think about, adding those two features shouldn't be too hard to do. AgentSmith, where are you???

MoonGoat ( ) posted Thu, 02 December 2004 at 11:22 PM

Miles away, AS is probably skiing in the Rockies on an extended vacation and is wondering how those rowdy artists at Renderosity are doing by themselves

Rochr ( ) posted Thu, 02 December 2004 at 11:33 PM

Contact Spike and tell him about this. Im sure he can help.

I get to go back home to the Rockies tomorrow...I'll look around and see if he is there.
Hang in there shadow...we like your stuff AND your comments. doh!! Looks like something may be happening. I went to look in your gallery and ALL the comments on the first image are "missing".

Naw, AgentSmith is more of a workaholic. More likely he's burning the Midnight oil trying to meet deadline for a scripting deal, or he could be putting in last-minute beta testing for a pending release of Ver. 5.5. If he's not here it means he's super-busy.

striving ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 12:17 AM

I love the IGNORE idea. And the Delete comments idea too. If R continues to ignore other issues around here, they do need to give us some tools to use. I also want to see the artist given the use of a VOTE disable when uploading an image. Where do I sign???

danamo ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 12:47 AM

Sorry I got sort of off-topic there SDL, I agree that your suggestions have a lot of merit. Too bad you are having to deal with the babies who can't handle your frankness.

foleypro ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 12:47 AM

Ohhhhhhh... Shadow you are Da man... YES I agree impliment those 2 feature Immediately...

dougocd ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 1:13 AM

Some damn good ideas, those.

Nukeboy ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 1:30 AM

Good idea! You've got my vote...er, you know.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 3:45 AM

(laughs) In a blatant unresponse by other forum administrators who like to pretend to do AS's job when he's not here, I took the liberty of turning off comments on my past images which contained the comments in question. Don't worry, I took screenshots of the existing comments before I did that, just to satisfy my own sense of ego, which is obviously tremendous given my ridiculous screen name. But now I've cooled down quite a bit, I still believe that these features should be easy to implement and may become necessary the more users we have around here... I guess it's not that big of a deal, I just feel like our individual galleries should be places of peace and order, not chaotic revenge machines. Enough about that, now back to our (rendering) story...

Oh yeah, Striving, and others... There IS a "disable votes" clicker in the Upload Images dialogue. That's why on your brutal (and well worth it) last big thread, I mentioned that I'll never make it into the Hot 20. Been there before, but never again. I don't want my crap compared to other people's crap that close up... (refer to the above thread, if you have the stomach!)

Being in the Ad business, my work gets trashed everyday by clients who couldn't buy an aesthetic sensibility with Bill Gates' money. I have some 22 year old clients who say things like: "Well I don't like your choice colours". "Its not my choice of colours you idiot, its part of your corporate identity that I'm forced to use." Of course I can't say that out loud. So you learn to develop a thick skin. My attitude towards every thing I've ever created is, I'm never really happy with it. I could tweak a piece of artwork for eternity, but I don't because I get bored with it, and its time to move on. They trash your artwork, they insult you. So what. Ignore it and move on. We don't need new buttons, its akin to censorship. Its a cruel world out there ladies and gents, carry your shield high. Don't mean to pontificate

I have to agree with bandolin on this one. It seems to me that when you try to exact revenge, and rant and rave about some awful (non-constructive) comment some-one has made about your work, then you are succumbing to thier level of immaturity. Not to mention handing those people exactly what they were trying to achieve, and that's a reaction from you. I say stay confident in your work, consider the source, take pity on them and move on. Doing these things just takes thier power away. That's just my humble 2 cents worth. There's a saying. The best revenge is to be happy. I firmly believe that.

pakled ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 12:31 PM

well, it could be an option, but I'd be wondering about the potential for misuse. There are those (present company excepted, of course), who think this place is more a popularity contest than a frank and earnest (I'm ernest, knowhutImean?..;) place to display artwork, and enjoy and learn. You think the 'excess of excellence' was a problem before..;) We'll see..maybe it's time to go back to the old 'numbering' system for artwork again..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

"There IS a "disable votes" clicker in the Upload Images dialogue" WHERE??? I dont see it. Are you thinking of ratings?

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 2:56 PM ยท edited Fri, 03 December 2004 at 2:56 PM

Sure enough, Striving, I was wrong. I don't know why people were unable to vote for some of my images, but it's been mentioned to me before, including in the (now deleted) comments on my newer image, Song of Dragons. Must have just been an error on my part...

Man you had me all excited, thinking they added it and I missed it.. heehee Ohh well. I will write R admins some more suggesting it.

FuzzyShadows ( ) posted Sat, 04 December 2004 at 12:42 AM

Out of curiosity, were all the insulting IM's and harsh comments before or after you went on your little rant and called them "idiots", "retarded", and their work "garbage"? Funny how one doesn't seem to need the "ignore" or "delete comments" feature you mention, until that someone steps out of line. PS. Usually the "unable to vote" scenario, is when they open up the picture from the Hot20 page (where the vote button is disabled), as opposed to opening it up from the gallery. Maybe that's what was happening.

I deleted that silly picture Robert. It was just a joke, nothing to get all bent out of shape over. Besides, the world is a bozo-bin.
