Not finished with this... figured I'd post it to see if anybody might want it, and to see what other features might be wanted. Here's the readme as it stands: 1. Start by loading one of the bubble props. 2. Select the prop. 3. Activate the script. 4. Left-click and release to set the location for a piece of text. (To be exact, the lower left corner of the text will start from the click.) 5. To draw lines, just left-click and move the mouse. 6. Hit "Apply" to generate a BMP and apply the BMP to the prop. ----------- Note that this can provide instant text and drawings on any suitable material, not just its own set of props. One thing it definitely needs is font selection. Another is colors. Probably needs capacity to load a background under the text. What else?

Obviously, what I typed to demo the
panel wasn't the same as what I
typed for the actual cartoon!

Also, I'm obviously not a cartoonist;
that's why I'm leaving so much of the
choice to those who are!

(Thinking of those Home Depot ads on TV:
"I am not an electrician. I am not a
painter. I am not a plumber....") And credits: The scene is Richabri's Cafe Facade; bus is by Royloo. Misaki and the SkyDome by lynnJonathan.

What a great idea! Question can you change the font used or is it static?

ockham ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 12:08 AM

I will definitely add a font selector, and it will save the last-used font. At the moment it's hard-wired.

Wait....Python????...Err...What is that???

EnglishBob ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 4:51 AM

It's a scripting language, which is supplied with Poser Pro Pack and Poser 5. It enables you to do all sorts of wonderful things, if you understand it; or if you know someone who does, like Ockham. :)

CODY ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 5:06 AM

Ya know...I guess I really need to get P-5!!! Where can I find the PoserProPack stuff???

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 6:33 AM

a thought balloon version might be good if it is possible and a jagged lines balloon for people talking on phones etc.

Replicant ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 10:40 AM

'What else?' A selection of bubble shapes as Xantor suggests. With scaling morphs and a dial to curl the tail left or right. I can think oflots of uses for this. :o)

It would be nice! But I would like to beable to choose the font as well.

"A selection of bubble shapes as Xantor suggests. With scaling morphs and a dial to curl the tail left or right. " This basic pattern is already present. I will add a couple of cloud-like thought bubbles and a jaggedy one for phoning. Does anyone think color choice is worthwhile?

The background itself can be set
just by changing the color of the
balloon object in the usual way;
doesn't need to be in the script. (That's how I did the BUS STOP sign.)

Dumb questions: are you able to add the text while in Poser?

ockham ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 5:17 PM

Sure. That's the whole point... place the balloons and add the captions while working in Poser, without having to wait for rendering and Photoshop layering.

Phantast ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 5:21 PM

Clever. I have a morphing speech balloon prop for download which allows you to change the shape of the bubble without scaling the stem, but you have to do the caption as a texture the hard way (or add it in postwork). But I don't use it myself as I prefer to do the whole shebang in postwork.

ockham, I could give you a big hug and kiss.. Well we'll settle for a manly pat on the back.

Marking this thread. This is awesome!

Oops. I forgot to rig up an alternate for P5. The version I posted only works in P4PP. Improved version coming up later tonight!

What a wonderful idea, looking forward to the P5 version :) Thank you ockham!

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 1:48 PM

Why don`t python scripts written for propack work with poser 5? Does poser 5 use a newer version of python?

ockham ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 11:11 PM

P5 does use a newer version. Generally speaking, scripts written for one version will work in the other. There are a few differences, but it's easy enough to write "across" those changes. In this case, though, I've written a DLL outside of Poser, which does the job of reading the image to a BMP file. This DLL is strictly version-specific, and has to be written separately for each type. It's also strictly Windows-specific, so there won't be a Mac version of this at all.

I can only imagine just how difficult this programming job may be, and wait hopefully and patiently.

xantor ( ) posted Thu, 09 December 2004 at 3:06 AM

Thank you, ockham, for explaining.
