Damn. Dont mind the textures and the background. Not pleased at all with the modeling here. Think I have to redo all the decks on this thing before I get any further on this picture.

I don't see what's wrong with it...it looks fine to me!

RobertJ ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 3:44 PM

Okee, you will redo them anyway, but this is going to be a hell of a dramatic scene, looking forward to the final version (and the inbetweens of course). Maybe an idea, give the edges of the decks a torn-up spacecraft texture, in that you can do much finer details without having to handle a gazillion meshparts.

A bit like this, the jagged edges are textures. BTW: I could not think of another example than the Junkyard office from the Karos Graveyard (Homeworld 1) But this is the idea

Just an idea: maybe some debris between (and above & below) the 2 halves? Cheers, Diolma

yes i like it too and maybe add some austronauts drifting away from the ship if not too horrid lol

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

LunarTick ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 4:40 PM

Maybe some flames coming out of the back half as well. Give yourself some credit mate, the modelling is great.

MoonGoat ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 7:05 PM

Wow, it looks great! Kinda freespace-ish also, which is great.

pakled ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 7:45 PM

there's a guy called UKKO that has a mat called 'USS Derelict'..that works in a pinch..used to be in free stuff..it's not always available, but it's handy when you want something like this..I think some small bits of things floating around, maybe some bright and dark spots (there's a scene in Starship Troopers something like this..great stuff so far..

Pakled: I have that .mat if anyone wants it. It pretty cool, but I haven't had anything to use it on. Original: Great work so far. A bit of Starship Troopers going on here I think.

Thanks for the ideas people.Debris are a must. Also trying to get some jagged edges. And explotions from the other half. I just didnt do it because of me becoming not pleased with the modeling. That thing is gigantic, and I dont get the scale of it I think. Its a service ship for the carrier in my "coming home" pictures, so it has a hangar in front. (red thingy in the picture)

good image debris is the thing, and bodies. maybe some spot lights to pick out detail on the outside of the bigship, and fade out the ground plane, as it seems to distract the foreground object. just a suggestion

alas, I searched freestuff, and can't find 'USS Derelict', can't find it in Google either..go figure..;)
had a thought..there are also some meshlike mats (I think it's Lunariad.com that has one called 'broken metal', that you could use, say with a sphere..some lights, some smoke/haze, etc., might work for debris..just a mental experiment..;)

If the scale is your problem, then you probably need a reference object in the pic. Another (single-seater) spacecraft perhaps. Although if the thing is that big, it might not be possible to see the reference.. Cheers, Dioma
